This positions works 32hrs a week.
The Career Counselor provides career exploration, assistance with job search, and support services to individuals eligible for Avivo Employment Services. This position will develop and maintain current employer partner relationships as well as develop new relationships with businesses to coordinate services in the community, assist with securing employment, and provide retention supports to those actively employed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Obtain and review all required documentation and determine participant eligibility.
  • Complete comprehensive needs assessment on all individuals referred with respect to contract policies and guidelines.
  • Develop individual employment plans and assist participants in accessing the public and private resources to meet goals outlined in the plan.
  • Provide intensive case management and advocacy for participants and their families.
  • Help participants develop and strengthen work behaviors and employability.
  • Establish effective relationships with area training institutions to increase participant's skill levels and job market competitiveness.
  • Promote continued education and lifelong learning to prepare participants for career advancement.
  • Assist participants with obtaining and maintaining competitive employment.
  • Distribute incentives and support services in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Identify possible areas for program improvement based on the need of participants.
  • Maintain participant files; submit reporting forms, and other data as required.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of employees, participants, and volunteers while managing external communications.
  • Positively represent the organization, program, and participant's needs.

  • Highschool degree and 4 years of applicable experience OR
  • Associate degree in a related field and 2 years of applicable experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. With a BA, no additional experience is required. Partial credit will be given for an internship with an applicable BA completed.
  • Must have a valid, current driver's license, proof of valid insurance and a clean driving record.

Preferred:
  • Global Career Development Facilitator Certification preferred or ability to become certified.
  • Two or more years of experience providing vocational/employment counseling, case management, vocational rehabilitation, supported work settings, community mental health, or chemical dependency services.
