Career Adviser Jobs (NOW HIRING)

As a career adviser, you will guide students and alumni in an assigned school and set of majors. Responsibilities include one-on-one student or alumni career planning, advising, and counseling to assess individual career development needs and provide advice on career advising benchmarks. You will also help students and alumni explore the requirements of their career goals, providing counsel on issues related to career identification and decision-making. Among other duties, you will recommend trainings and workshops for professional development in academic, personal, and pre-professional settings for which you will help students and alumni register for on 12twenty. An awareness of students and alumni who may require evaluation for a special need or circumstance is required.

In this role, you will maintain an essential database of information and manage interactions with the career advising benchmarks (CAB) system. You will ensure student engagement is extensively documented, showing the quality of individual and group work, and promptly reply to requested reports according to university goals and guidelines. Additionally, you will oversee seminars and other events designated to your academic school throughout the job search process or as assignees apply to graduate or professional schools. In collaboration with the career and alumni success (CAS) team, you will plan and implement annual Career Fair and Alumni Weekend events as well as informational programs for students and their parents. Collaborations with employers, faculty, and staff to develop internship and employment opportunities will also occur as well as partnerships with the deans and department chairs on career development events and activities.

In this position, you will plan and implement location-wide career development seminars, workshops, and presentations to educate students on the capabilities of CAS. You will also serve as a liaison to industry professionals and assist with career and freelance opportunities for alumni. Among other duties, you will build relationships with businesses that can provide career opportunities for students and alumni and coordinate with various academic departments, students, and alumni to schedule the employer visits. Additionally, you will plan, implement, and host recruitment visits to SCAD. You will also schedule visits with area businesses to develop and strengthen relationships. Other duties may be assigned to ensure the success of the students and contributions of CAS.

The ideal candidate demonstrates outstanding communication, presentation, organizational and project management skills. They understand the career development process and the art and design job market and possess a working understanding of information management systems and web-based technology. The candidate always maintains a student-centered focus and manages their personal presentation through dress and conduct. They keep in mind the quality of personal interactions and professional engagements with students and alumni.

Minimum qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree with strong work history
• Experience in career advising, recruiting, or a related industry
• Experience working with diverse populations 

Preferred qualifications: 

• Master's degree

Travel required:  

• Less than 10%

Work hours:The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
