Job Summary
ECTC is seeking a Career Advisor to provide personalized guidance to students as they explore academic majors, careers, and professional pathways. The counselor fosters a supportive environment that encourages students to reflect on their personal goals and academic pursuits while providing resources to connect them with career opportunities and major-specific requirements. Additionally, the counselor will manage web pages and digital content to support students' career exploration and academic advising needs.
Job Duties:
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
โ€ข Advise students on academic pathways and career planning, develop clear tools for career/interest assessment, serve as lead on career/job market platforms, and represent the office at campus and community events.
โ€ข Assist incoming and returning students in creating realistic goals and pathways to achieve those goals.
โ€ข In addition to regular advising responsibilities (individual email, phone, appointments, etc.), assist with ECTC advising email, incoming office calls, and walk-ins.
โ€ข Works in concert with staff advisors, faculty advisors, and the career pathway director to provide intrusive career exploration, academic advising, and planning for first-year students to connect them with the appropriate major within their first year.
โ€ข Participate in Registration/Enrollment activities on campus and in the community.
โ€ข Utilize career assessment tools, interest inventories, and academic resources to guide students in selecting majors that align with their skills and passions.
โ€ข Support and educate students on the usage of Handshake, Futuriti (Career Exploration Software), and other platforms as implemented.
โ€ข Provide information on career pathways, job outlook, and required qualifications for different fields of study.
โ€ข Oversee career assessment inventory and provide academic advising based on data.
โ€ข Work with the recruitment team to assist undecided prospects.
โ€ข Collect and analyze data utilizing KCTCS program alignment tools and create internal databases.
โ€ข Outreach to first-year undecided students at the end of the first semester to ensure they are selecting a program plan and career path.
โ€ข Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in higher education, career, human resources, counseling or related field or equivalent years of experience; Typical years of relevant experience: 4-6.
