DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Confirm the purpose for each visit, verify patient information by interviewing the patients, reviewing, or recording medical history, completing the clinic visit form, taking vital signs, and documenting this information in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Prepare patients for the health care visit by providing examination gowns and drapes; positioning patients for examination or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
Demonstrate the ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks. Prompt responsiveness to patient needs and delivery of messages to the care team.
Support care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations, preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests on specimens, disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing medical instruments, preparing patients for x-ray, taking electrocardiograms, changing dressings, removing IVs, point of care glucose testing, performing venipuncture to obtain a blood sample, and maintaining quality control checks.
Maintain stock levels and order clinic supplies. Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Strong customer service team orientation.
Consistently communicate in a professional and courteous manner.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Requires one of the following:
• Certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
• Has completed a fundamentals of nursing course, or
• Nursing licensure candidate who failed to pass the state licensure examinations in the past three (3) years; or
• Completion of a professional or licensed practical nursing program outside the United States and is awaiting the licensure examination in this country; or
• Experience with direct patient care such as a medical assistant, nursing assistant, emergency medical technician (EMT), or surgical technician in the past three (3) years; or
• Completion of an unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) training program; or
• Completion of the MU Health Care CTA-A specific training through the Center for Education and Development (CED) within thirty (30) days of start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in an ambulatory setting associated with an academic health system. Hours are established by each clinic but are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Work during inclement weather will be required.
