Position Overview
The Medical Director, Vascular Surgery will serve as the clinical and strategic leader responsible for developing, growing, and advancing VHC Health's vascular surgery program.
Because this is a growing and evolving service line, the organization seeks a physician leader with substantial experience in vascular surgery, program development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and operational leadership. This role is ideal for a surgeon who is energized by the opportunity to expand clinical services, strengthen referral networks, enhance procedural capabilities, and shape the future vision of vascular care delivery across the health system.
The Medical Director will work closely with executive leadership, cardiology, interventional radiology, operating room leadership, wound care services, critical care teams, nephrology, podiatry, and primary care physicians to create a comprehensive, integrated vascular program focused on exceptional patient outcomes, innovation, and growth.
Clinical Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient vascular surgery care

Perform open and endovascular procedures for arterial and venous disease

Evaluate and manage patients with peripheral arterial disease, carotid disease, aortic pathology, dialysis access needs, venous disease, limb ischemia, and complex vascular conditions

Perform minimally invasive and advanced endovascular interventions

Participate in inpatient consultations, emergency vascular call coverage, and perioperative management

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate evidence-based vascular care

Support limb preservation, wound care, and vascular access initiatives

Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record
Medical Director Leadership Responsibilities
Program Development & Growth

Lead the development and expansion of the vascular surgery program
-
Build referral pathways, operational workflows, and integrated vascular care models

Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and cardiovascular service-line growth initiatives

Assist in physician and APP recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts

Develop relationships with referring physicians and regional healthcare partners
-
Identify opportunities for growth in endovascular therapies, limb preservation, dialysis access, venous disease management, and vascular imaging services
Qualifications
-
MD or DO from an accredited medical school

Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency
-
Completion of accredited Vascular Surgery fellowship training required

Board Certification in Vascular Surgery required

Eligibility for unrestricted Virginia medical licensure

Minimum of 5 years of post-training vascular surgery experience strongly preferred

Demonstrated expertise in open and endovascular vascular procedures

Prior leadership experience as a Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Division Chief, or service-line leader preferred

Experience in program development, operational growth, or procedural service expansion strongly preferred

Commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, innovation, quality improvement, and patient-centered care

Compensation Range: $250,000.00 - $552,240.00 annually
