Job description

Description:

Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for all humankind. The Instituteโ€™s primary mission is to conduct high quality basic biomedical and clinical research aimed at generating knowledge and information necessary for understanding molecular mechanisms of disease and development of medical cures and treatments of tomorrow.

The Wu laboratory at the Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join a research program aiming to understand transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation in heart disease. Our lab combines mouse genetics with cutting-edge multi-omics techniques to map out the intricate cardiac gene regulation network orchestrated by transcription factors and RNA-binding proteins. Through these studies, we aim to define the molecular mechanisms underlying congenital and acquired heart diseases, including left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC), and to identify new therapeutic strategies for improving cardiovascular health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the lab, including preparing reagents, maintaining equipment, and mouse colony maintenance.
  • Conduct experiments under the supervision of senior researchers, including molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and animal studies.
  • Assist in interpreting experimental results and preparing for publication.
  • Work collaboratively with other lab members, contributing ideas and expertise to ongoing research projects.

Requirements:
  • A recent bachelorโ€™s or masterโ€™s degree in biological sciences or related fields.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular and cell biology techniques, including PCR, western blotting, and cell culture.
  • Prior experience in handling laboratory mice is preferred.
  • Willingness to develop new technical and analytical workflows to address scientific questions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

This position will be supervised by both the principal investigator and his post-doctoral fellows, and there will be opportunities for the scope of this position to expand beyond the roles listed above.
