Job Summary and Qualifications

 The Medical Lab Technician collects blood, performs test, inputs patient information and test results into computer, performs computer functions as needed and assists in other duties as directed by laboratory supervisor/manager. The Medical Lab Technician is proficient in the following disciplines: Hematology, Chemistry, Immunohematology (Blood Bank), POCT, and microscopic urine. 

  • Accepts responsibility for own actions; offers and accepts constructive criticism in a non – defensive manner. 
  • Adheres to hospital attendance and tardiness policy. Appropriately clocks in/out and returns from break and lunch on time. 
  • Adheres to schedule and provides coverage in assigned areas. Adaptable to changes in work flows. 
  • Adjusts break and lunch times to ensure appropriate department coverage for optimal patient care. 
  • All employees will be held accountable for attending training regarding Code of Conduct annually. 
  • Appropriate use and inventory of reagents and supplies (initial/date all opened reagents). 
  • Assists in maintaining general cleanliness and safety of work area to ensure that work area is clean and free of safety hazards. 
  • Can perform venipuncture and capillary (finger & heel) sticks on infants, children and adults. 
  • Expectations Ethics and Compliance: All employees will be held accountable for behaviors displayed relative to the values articulated in the Mission and Values Statement. “Will act with absolute honest, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our business and the way we live our lives. 
  • All employees will be held accountable for attending training regarding the Code of Conduct program at least annually. 
  • Follows protocols for checking and reporting critical values and delta checks per SOP. 
What qualifications you will need:
  • License / Certifications / Requirements Must possess MLT or equivalent certification, or be currently eligible to sit for MLT or equivalent certification exam. 
  • Certification as MLT (ASCP) 
  • Requires Associates Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  •  Experience: Prefer one year of experience in one of the Laboratory Sciences.
