The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
One of the world's leading universities, Columbia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education offers elite-level student-athletes the ability to compete for and win Ivy League titles and NCAA Championships. With 31 varsity sports, Columbia Athletics is the largest NCAA Division I athletics program in New York City and the only NCAA Division I sports program in Manhattan. Columbia Athletics has positioned itself with elite-level coaches and top-notch facilities in the Campbell Sports Complex, Baker Athletics Complex, the Milstein Tennis Center, and Dodge Fitness Center.
The Group Fitness Instructor assists member participants in establishing and reaching their fitness/wellness goals by developing a safe and effective class and providing guidance in proper exercise technique. Seeking highly qualified, certified instructors to lead a variety of formats, such as Pilates, sculpting, Barre, Zumba, and more. Requires current CPR/AED and nationally-recognized fitness certifications.
Responsibilities
  • Communicating and scheduling with assigned clients in a timely manner.
  • Devising individualized exercise sessions and conducting these sessions at the Dodge Fitness Center.
  • Staying up to date with all required documentation and procedures pertaining to sessions tracking conducted sessions.
  • Updating direct supervisor on status of clients upon request.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree and/or its equivalent required.
  • Must possess the ability to lead a variety of group exercise class formats forourmulti-generational student/staff population.
  • Ability to develop and lead high choreography cardio formats such as cardio dance and cardio kickboxing is a plus.
  • Instructors must be prompt, reliable, and able to follow departmental procedures.
  • Current CPR/AED/ First Aid are required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Nationally recognized group fitness instructor certification, small group training certification, and/or personal training certification combined with group instructor experience, or certification in specific format is strongly preferred.
  • Flexible availability, particularly mornings, late afternoons, and/or weekends is appreciated/preferred.
