The Cardiac Monitor Technician has the knowledge and ability to assist the Registered Professional Nurse in the delivery of care through the proficient and constant monitoring of the patient's cardiac rhythm status and pulse oximetry. This is performed always showing sensitivity toward individual needs. Accepts responsibility for individual job requirements and performance, able to contribute to effective unit operations.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/ department's policies and procedures.

Ability to read, write, and understand the English language; ability to perform basic mathematics; ability to learn multiple cardiac rhythm abnormalities and convey these to the registered nurse expeditiously carry out directions; must possess a mature, sympathetic and caring attitude with the ability to be sensitive to the varied needs of the GH patient population; must be flexible, cooperative, and able to meet the demands of the Cardiac Monitoring Technician position using appropriate communication techniques. Ability to provide clerical support to the Nurse Manager and staff through various activities. Ability to facilitate unit activities through interaction with other hospital departments. Ability to contribute to the fiscal integrity of the unit. Is a role model for Service Excellence

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Sitting for more than half the shift. Ability to remain alert and focused during long periods of tedium and relative inactivity punctuated by frequent false alarms. Some light typing required. Sitting for long periods of time in what frequently is a tedious environment; exposure to dust from working around high voltage electrical monitoring equipment. Fatigue and eyestrain.
