ASRC Federal Advanced Research is currently seeking a skilled Painter to support operations at the Detroit Arsenal Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC). The Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, refinishing, and restoring military ground vehicle components, shop equipment, and facility assets. This role includes surface preparation, application of specialty coatings, maintenance of painting equipment, and ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and environmental compliance standards. The Painter will coordinate with supervisors and production teams to complete assigned work orders, support vehicle modernization efforts, and document completed tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform industrial and production-level painting on military vehicles, parts, components, and related equipment.
  • Prepare surfaces by sanding, grinding, masking, cleaning, and priming prior to paint application.
  • Apply coatings using brushes, rollers, spray guns, paint booths, or other approved methods.
  • Mix and match colors, finishes, and coatings to required specifications.
  • Apply military coatings including CARC (Chemical Agent Resistant Coating) and other specialty finishes.
  • Conduct quality control checks, paint thickness measurements, and final inspections to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and schematics.
  • Perform sandblasting and abrasive blasting operations as required.
  • Maintain painting tools, spray equipment, booths, and related systems in safe working conditions.
  • Follow OSHA, EPA, and site-specific environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Support prototype builds, vehicle upgrades, and restoration projects as assigned.
  • Complete work orders, production records, and daily status reporting.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of industrial, automotive, military, or production painting experience.
  • Experience operating spray equipment and surface preparation tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to lift, stand, bend, and work in industrial shop environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience utilizing military CARC paint systems.
  • Prior experience supporting military vehicle programs or defense manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of corrosion prevention, metal treatment, and specialty coatings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Positive attitude with ability to work effectively in a team environment.
