Title: Sales Consultant (New and Used Vehicle)
Reports to: Sales Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Role Summary: Under the supervision of the Sales Manager, sells new vehicles at dealership gross profit, volume, and customer satisfaction standards. Additional duties may be assigned based on the needs of the company.
Principal Accountabilities:
  1. Sells and delivers a minimum number of vehicles per month.

  1. Writes complete sales orders and processes paperwork in accordance with dealership policies.

  1. Utilizes dealership sales control and follow-up systems.

  1. Attends product and sales training courses as requested by sales manager.

  1. Keeps up to date on new products and services within the industry.

  1. Maintains an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to customer satisfaction.

  1. Maintains a prospect development system.

  1. Conducts business in an ethical and professional manner.

  1. Satisfies the transportation needs of new-vehicle purchasers.

  1. Approaches, greets, and helps or direction to any customer who enters the dealership showroom or sales lot.

  1. Assists customers in selecting a vehicle by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses.

  1. Fully explains product performance, application, and benefits to prospects.

  1. Describes all optional equipment available for customer purchase.

  1. Offers test drives to all prospects. Follows dealership procedure to obtain proper identification from customer prior to test drive.

  1. Exhibits high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.

  1. Knows and understands the federal, state and local laws that govern retail auto sales.

  1. Establishes personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity and devises a strategy to meet those goals.

  1. Keeps abreast of new products, features accessories, etc., and their benefits to customers.

  1. Knows and understands equity and values and can explain depreciation to the customer.

  1. Ensures that the sales manager has an opportunity to meet each customer.

  1. Turns 100 percent of closed deals to finance and insurance manager, along with properly completed paperwork (insurance information, trade title etc.).

  1. Prepares sold vehicles for customer delivery prior to customer arrival.

  1. Delivers vehicles to customers, ensuring that each customer understands the vehicle's operating features, warranty and paperwork.

  1. Introduces customers to service department personnel to emphasize the quality and efficiency of service repairs and maintenance available in the dealership's service department.

  1. Schedules first service appointment.

  1. Follows up on all post-delivery items, tag/title work, "we-owes" and special requests to be sure that all customer expectations are met.

  1. Reviews and analyzes actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.

  1. Attends sales meetings.

  1. Maintains professional appearance.

  1. Maintains a cooperative manner with other employees

  1. Any other duties as assigned by management

Essential Skills and Experience:
  1. Effective knowledge and use of software applications including Microsoft Office, Excel, and office management practices.
  2. A proven ability to work quickly and accurately with numbers and perform standard math computations.
  3. Effective understanding and application of negotiation skills and interpersonal communication.
  4. Must be adept at both oral and written communication techniques and maintain effective working relationships with a range of audiences, from customers, prospective customers, vendors, owners, other staff members, and the public at large.
  5. Must be able to prioritize, plan, and work swiftly and accurately with data, and work under tight deadlines.
  6. Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing; develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, all members of the Galles team.

  1. Previous experience working in car dealership settings.

  1. Bilingual, English/Spanish.

Physical and Mental Challenges:
  1. Consistent sitting/standing for many hours at one time. Majority of day (55%+) is spent sitting at a desk.

  1. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.

  1. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive oral and written information and to prepare or inspect documents.

  1. Good manual dexterity is required for regular and consistent use of keyboard and mouse and other office equipment.

  1. Ability to climb stairs on occasion.

  1. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

  1. Majority of the job is located inside a climate-controlled office, during regular hours of operation.

  1. May be expected to drive a company or personal vehicle, as a normal course of job performance. Must be insurable through MVD.

  1. High levels of stress associated with working with the public in adversarial situations, extreme deadline issues and intense sales environment.

  1. Requires discriminating and critical thinking skills, guided and creative problem solving and ability to keep confidences and apply discretion on a regular basis.

  1. This is a 'safety sensitive' position in which performance by a person under the influence of drugs or alcohol would constitute an immediate or direct threat of injury or death to that person or another. As such, employees in this role are subject to random drug screening.
