Job description

Huge Opportunity for an Experienced, Analytical Used Car Buyer

We are a growing automotive organization looking for a highly analytical Used Car Buyer who understands the used vehicle market and knows how to identify the right cars, at the right price, with the right turn potential.

This is not simply an appraisal position. We need someone who understands inventory as an investment and can use data, market conditions, and experience to make profitable buying decisions.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Aggressively source and purchase quality used vehicles through auctions, dealer trades, service-drive opportunities, customer acquisitions, street purchases, and other channels
  • Utilize vAuto daily to analyze market conditions, pricing, supply, demand, days' supply, and competitive inventory
  • Analyze Market Days Supply, Price-to-Market, Cost-to-Market, retail pricing, historical performance, and turn
  • Identify vehicles with strong retail demand and avoid inventory that is likely to age
  • Make disciplined buying decisions based on data and profitability—not emotion
  • Manage acquisition costs and understand the relationship between purchase price, transportation, recon, retail price, and expected gross
  • Monitor aging inventory and help develop strategies to move vehicles before they become problems
  • Maintain the proper inventory mix based on actual dealership and market demand
  • Work closely with Used Car Management, Sales Management, and Service/Reconditioning
  • Track results and continuously improve purchasing decisions based on actual retail performance
What We’re Looking For

vAuto experience is strongly preferred and will be a major consideration for this position.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has previous automotive used-car buying, appraisal, or used-car management experience
  • Is extremely analytical and comfortable working with numbers
  • Understands vAuto Provision and market-based inventory management
  • Understands vehicle valuation and appraisal
  • Knows how to read the market rather than simply relying on book values
  • Understands inventory turn, aging, gross profit, recon expense, and ROI
  • Has experience purchasing vehicles through major auctions and other acquisition channels
  • Can recognize desirable inventory and accurately determine what a vehicle can realistically retail for
  • Is disciplined enough to walk away from a bad buy
  • Can make fast decisions without sacrificing accuracy
  • Is accountable for the performance of the vehicles they purchase
We Want a Buyer, Not Just an Appraiser

We are looking for someone who can look at the data and answer:

Can we retail it? How quickly can we retail it? What can we realistically sell it for? What will we have invested in it? And what should we pay for it?

If that is how you already think about used cars, we want to talk to you.

What We Offer
  • Excellent compensation for the right candidate
  • Performance-based earning opportunity
  • Growing automotive organization
  • Significant opportunity for advancement
  • Access to the tools and data necessary to make intelligent purchasing decisions
  • Management that understands the importance of having the right inventory—not simply more inventory
  • Opportunity to have a direct impact on used-car volume, turn, and profitability

This is a key position within our organization. We are looking for someone who can help us build a smarter, faster-turning, more profitable used vehicle inventory.

Apply with your resume and a brief description of your experience with vAuto, used-car acquisition, appraisals, auctions, and inventory management.

All inquiries will be kept confidential.
