Job DescriptionAs the Senior Manager, Capital Engineering, you will lead the strategy, development, and execution of North America's digital engineering and asset digitization initiatives across the United States and Canada. This highly visible leadership role will drive a multi-year, transformation program focused on modernizing operations through innovative technologies, enhanced asset visibility, and data-driven decision making.
In this role, you will lead a team of talented engineering professionals while partnering with Operations, Quality, Health & Safety, Finance, and external technology providers to deliver complex capital projects from concept through commissioning. Success will require a strategic mindset, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to execute large-scale automation and digital engineering programs that improve reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities May Include:

  • Develop and manage large-scale capital engineering projects for automation, IoT and continuous improvement solutions, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Health & Safety, Finance, Quality) and external suppliers to drive project success, managing stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the preparation of Capex documents, including cost estimates, project justifications, equipment layouts, and technical specifications, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Manage equipment installation and commissioning, including contractor supervision, safety compliance, and ensuring adherence to all environmental regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and increasing operational efficiency through the adoption of advanced technologies like AI, robotics, and digital twin models.
  • Ensure the development and delivery of proper training programs and operational documentation (as-built drawings, manuals, spare parts lists) to ensure seamless handover to operational teams.
  • Maintain strict financial control over capital projects, accurately forecasting expenditures, managing budgets, and ensuring fiduciary compliance throughout project execution.
  • Champion Zero Harm and environmental standards, ensuring projects meet the highest safety requirements and adhere to regulatory standards throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will drive capital investment strategies, lead the execution of digital transformation initiatives, and ensure the successful deployment of automation, tracking, and intelligent asset management technologies across the network. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Digital Transformation

  • Develop and execute the engineering strategy for a $100M-$150M asset digitization program across the United States and Canada.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies that support long-term business objectives and operational excellence.
  • Lead transformational initiatives focused on asset tracking, digitization, automation, and operational visibility.
  • Collaborate with global teams to identify and deploy best practices that drive consistent and sustainable improvements across regions.
  • Research and champion innovative solutions, both internally and externally, to enhance productivity, reliability, and business performance.

Capital Project Delivery

  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of large-scale capital engineering projects involving automation, IoT, robotics, serialization, and tracking technologies.
  • Oversee the preparation of business cases, CapEx requests, project justifications, cost estimates, equipment specifications, and facility layouts.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with established performance expectations.
  • Manage all phases of project execution, including supplier selection, procurement activities, installation, commissioning, qualification, and startup.
  • Utilize FAT, CQV, and Vertical Startup processes to ensure successful project implementation and operational readiness.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of highly skilled engineering professionals across North America.
  • Establish performance objectives, provide coaching, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Build technical capabilities within the team to support evolving business and technology needs.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze equipment and operational data to improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and system reliability.
  • Partner with Operations teams to identify and implement opportunities that increase throughput, efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Support the development and scaling of engineering standards and equipment specifications across North America.
  • Drive supplier performance through structured feedback and continuous improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder Management & Compliance

  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Finance, Quality, and Health & Safety teams to ensure project alignment and successful execution.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership and key stakeholders regarding project progress, milestones, risks, and financial performance.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and permitting requirements.
  • Champion a culture of Zero Harm and ensure all projects meet applicable safety and sustainability standards.

Financial Management

  • Maintain strict financial oversight of capital expenditures and project budgets.
  • Develop accurate forecasts and monitor spending throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure fiduciary compliance and effective stewardship of capital investments

Experience - What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5-7+ years of experience leading industrial engineering, capital projects, or project management initiatives within a global, matrixed organization.
  • Proven success delivering capital projects or programs exceeding $5 million in value.
  • Experience with material handling systems, automation technologies, robotics, and conveyor systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing highly technical engineering teams.
  • Strong project management, stakeholder management, and cross-functional leadership skills
