Job description

Position Summary

The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of multiple water and wastewater treatment facilities within the Triangle geographical area. This role ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with state and federal regulations. The Area Manager provides leadership to operations staff, serves as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, and supports Envirolink Inc.’s commitment to environmental stewardship, public health, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of assigned water and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure continuous, compliant service.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, permits, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor system performance, process control data, and compliance metrics; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate operators, technicians, and site supervisors within the assigned area.
  • Coordinate and support regulatory inspections, audits, and site visits; respond to findings and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of operational logs, discharge monitoring reports (DMRs), compliance reports, and internal documentation.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and best management practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and management teams on system upgrades, capital improvements, and process optimization.
  • Manage budgets related to operations, maintenance, staffing, and minor capital expenditures.
  • Provide on-call or emergency response support as required for system upsets, compliance issues, or infrastructure failures.
  • Act as a point of contact for clients, municipalities, and internal stakeholders regarding system performance and compliance status.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a closely related field preferred but not required;
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in water and/or wastewater treatment operations, including supervisory or lead responsibilities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water and wastewater treatment system operations and regulatory compliance standards;
  • Strong understanding of state and federal environmental regulations, including permit requirements and reporting obligations;
  • Proven ability to manage multiple facilities and priorities across a defined geographic area;
  • Prefer one or more licenses of Grade III Biological Wastewater, Grade C Water, Distribution, and/or Collections;
  • Good communication skills required including demonstrated fluency with reading, writing and speaking the English language;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License;
  • US Citizen. E-Verification required;
  • No felonies or major misdemeanors;
  • Envirolink, Inc. is a drug-free work place.  Initial and random drug testing is required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check;
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check;
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire.
