Job description

Nursing Assistant, Med Surg

Performs as a member of the Nursing Team various duties assisting Staff Nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.

1. Participates in the nursing process during delivery of patient care.

2. Assists in providing nursing care to patients and collects data for assessment of physical, psychological, and social dimensions under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

3. Participates in implementing a formal plan of care for the patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

4. Participates in at least four unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs.

5. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.

6. Assesses personal and learning development needs. Regularly updates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served.

7. Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.

8. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.

9. Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor.

Additional NURSING ASSISTANT PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Nursing Assistant)

1. Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).

2. Assists in orientation of other personnel to the unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Qualifications:

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English

• Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

a) MA Certified Nursing Assistant License

b) Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant Program

c) Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program or National CMA

d) Successful completion of an EMT Program or EMT-B/EMT-P License

e) Successful completion of an LPN Program

f) Equivalent clinical Military experience

g) Nursing student who is currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing School Program and has completed Fundamentals of Nursing/Nursing 101 in lieu of a Nursing Assistant Program

h) Successful completion of the Cape Cod Hospital Nursing Assistant Training program

• Current Basic Life Support Certification

• Successful passage of CPI training within 6 months of hire and must maintain recertification annually

Schedule Details: 32 Hours Per Week, Rotating Days, 7a-3:15p, Every Other Weekend & Rotating Holidays (Barbey 3)
