What You'll Be Doing

The US Capital Markets CAO group delivers strategic and operational leadership for CIBC's US Capital Markets business, supporting its mandate to be a premier client-focused global bank. Acting as the primary liaison, the group bridges the Capital Markets business with infrastructure teams, internal and external vendors, brokers, and suppliers, ensuring seamless coordination and effective partnership across all functions. The CAO group is committed to maintaining a robust control environment and providing expert guidance to advance business strategy.

This Associate-level role will provide business management support for the US Corporate & Investment Banking revenue-generating business. The position is based in New York City. Candidates must be comfortable working onsite in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How You'll Succeed

As a key member of the CAO group in New York, you will provide direct, day-to-day support to our investment bankers, capital market transactors and syndicate desk professionals within the US Corporate & Investment Banking business. Working closely with infrastructure partners, you will play a critical role in advancing strategic objectives and ensuring seamless operational support for the business. Your proactive approach and collaborative mindset will help drive efficiency, enable business growth, and contribute to the overall success of the business. You will oversee end-to-end processes and controls, including deal pipeline, management reporting, position exposure, risk appetite, regulatory capital, RWA, revenue recognition, expense management, headcount, balance sheet management, systems entitlements, market data and records retention.

Who You Are

  • 2-5 years of direct experience supporting sell-side Capital Markets product origination and/or syndicate desks including Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Private Placements, Leveraged Finance and/or Loan Syndication. Prior titles/roles may include: Business Manager, Middle Office, Transaction Management, Syndicate Operations, among others
  • Familiarity with deal structure, product knowledge and revenue calculation.
  • Understanding of full lifecycle of new-issue capital markets origination and syndication
  • Experience in Investment Banking sector coverage, M&A and Corporate Banking a plus
  • Experience leading projects with multiple infrastructure team stakeholders including Compliance, Legal, Risk, IT, Operations and Finance
  • Familiarity with the capital markets regulatory, accounting, legal and compliance environment
  • Highly motivated, self-starter; able to work in a fast paced, results driven environment, with limited management oversight
  • Ability to execute tasks under aggressive targets and effectively manage to changes in plan
  • Excellent organizational skills with a good attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications (i.e., Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $120,000 - $135,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
