About Us

Canopy is a fast-growing SaaS company in Draper, Utah building simple, powerful software for accounting firms. We're on a mission to help accountants build an autonomous firm — giving them back the time and tools they need to focus on what matters most: their clients.

We believe the accounting industry deserves world-class software, and we're building exactly that. The Opportunity

We are hiring a User Experience Designer to join our product team. Designers serve a huge role here at Canopy; from designing impactful experiences for our customers to serving the rest of the organization in helping create better overall customer experiences. We love designers who are generous, thoughtful, practical, collaborative, and enjoy learning.

Our User Experience design team at Canopy is empowered to research, prioritize, prototype, and test product experiences from the embedded post of a product development team, this ensures that we are building a product that adds value and usefulness to our existing and new customers. The User Experience design team at Canopy is not only responsible for creating these great experiences but also for fostering a culture of structured design and research throughout the company to empower others to be user-driven.
Our designers are AI-first in how they work. They use AI to move faster through research, exploration, and prototyping, and they increasingly design the AI experiences inside our product. They work in both code and the canvas, using the right tool for the job at hand.

This is a hybrid position in Draper, Utah (M, W, F in-office).

What You'll Do

  • Embed cross-functionally with product management and engineering to represent the design team, facilitate user-driven discussions, make decisions, and provide feedback in product planning and execution.
  • Collaborate closely with design and product leadership to define your features and contribute to the overall direction of your product area.
  • Set up, lead, and execute customer research and stakeholder interviews with your product manager.
  • Design user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals and assets.
  • Construct prototypes that accurately portray the designed user interactions.
  • Design AI-powered experiences in the product, shaping how customers direct, trust, correct, and stay in control of AI in their workflows.
  • Prepare all assets for engineering handoff to clearly illustrate what needs to be built.
  • Work closely with engineering to ensure the highest quality implementation of the designs and objectives and own every aspect of the design.
  • Collaborate often with other user experience designers to ensure the overall product experience is cohesive and valuable.
  • Construct user interfaces within a design system and component library.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to fellow designers, contributing to the overall skill enhancement of the entire team.
  • Seek input and feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, including product designers, subject matter experts, engineers, product managers, sales, customer support, and marketing, to ensure the development of a cohesive and user-centric experience.

What We're Looking For

  • 5 + years of experience in Product Design, UX Design, or Interaction Design desired.
  • Experience in designing user interfaces for B2B, B2B2C, or B2C fintech applications is a plus.
  • A customer-obsessed attitude and strong empathy for our users.
  • Deep understanding of mobile and web design patterns, responsive design, and accessibility standards.
  • Proficiency in common design tools and methodologies (Figma, Usertesting.com, wireframing, workflow diagrams, etc.).
  • Confident, practical use of AI throughout your own process, including research synthesis, exploration, prototyping, and production work, with a clear point of view on where it helps and where it doesn't.
  • Comfort working in both code and the canvas. You don't need to ship production code, but you can read a component, prototype in code when that's the faster path, and hold your own in technical conversations.
  • Experience designing AI features, or a real appetite for it, including prompt and input design, communicating model confidence, graceful failure, and human review.
  • A portfolio of work in which you were the primary designer leading high-impact projects for mobile and desktop. Showcase problem-solving, decision-making, iterating, ideating, prototyping, and overall visual design.
  • Ability to partner directly with product managers and engineers to discover user needs, design solutions, and test your assumptions prior to building.
  • An understanding of the purpose of prototyping as a means to explore and validate design concepts and solutions.
  • The desire to regularly collaborate often with other designers; share, learn, and mentor.
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and translating insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively present and articulate design concepts and decisions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex user workflows into intuitive and efficient interactions.
  • A solid understanding of the impact of strong design and have good business intuition.
  • Consistently positive attitude, highly self-motivated, undeterred by challenging feedback or the occasional need to send things back to the drawing board.
  • High bar for quality, and you know what great work looks like.
