What is cannabis insurance?

Cannabis insurance is a specialized type of insurance designed to protect businesses operating in the cannabis industry from various risks, such as property damage, product liability, theft, and crop loss. Since cannabis remains federally illegal in the U.S., traditional insurance policies often don’t cover these businesses, requiring tailored coverage that meets state regulations. Cannabis insurance can include general liability, product liability, workers’ compensation, and other policies specific to cultivation, manufacturing, retail, and distribution. It's essential for cannabis businesses to obtain proper insurance to safeguard their assets, employees, and customers.

Job description

About the role

Evergreen Market is hiring an experienced Assistant Purchaser to run the day-to-day purchase-order cycle for a portfolio of vendors across our dispensary chain. Working alongside our Purchaser, you'll manage POs end to end, forecast demand from sales data, resolve vendor issues, and keep our assortment sharp and in-stock. This is a hands-on purchasing-operations role for someone who already knows procurement and inventory workflows-cannabis experience is a plus, not a prerequisite. If you've coordinated buying or inventory for retail, grocery, beverage, or distribution and can learn a regulated product category, we'd like to talk.

What you'll do
  • Create and manage purchase orders for an assigned vendor portfolio across all stores
  • Use sales data to forecast demand and maintain the right inventory levels
  • Track deliveries, resolve vendor discrepancies and pricing issues, and maintain accurate vendor records
  • Partner with Marketing and Inventory to plan for promotions and seasonal peaks
  • Analyze aged and slow-moving inventory; recommend and execute resolution (discounts, returns, vendor outreach)
  • Support inventory adjustments (shrink, destruction) and vendor payments alongside the Ops Lead
  • Support compliance-driven process changes and special projects in a regulated environment
What you need
  • 3+ years in purchasing, buying, procurement, or inventory coordination
  • Solid grasp of PO workflows and inventory tracking
  • Comfortable making data-based ordering decisions; proficient in Excel (pivot tables, lookups)
  • Strong organization, time management, and clear cross-functional communication
  • Must be 21+ (Washington State cannabis regulation)
Nice to have
  • Cannabis or other regulated-industry experience
  • Familiarity with POS/inventory systems and WA cannabis compliance (we'll train the specifics)
Compensation & benefits
  • Pay: $24.59–26.50/hour
  • Medical, dental, EAP, and vision insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Generous employee discount

  • Must be willing to participate in our random (illegal) drug testing program.
  • All offers of employment are contingent pending a background check.
