Job description

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP's extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to senior citizens, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Facilities Coordinator (Evening/Weekend Manager) works as part of the team responsible for the smooth operation of the War Memorial Recreation Center, a facility that includes:  three pools, a weight room, and a large gymnasium/field house. Under the direction of the War Memorial Director, the position will:

  • Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for patrons

  • Supervise all pool staff and front desk operations, including management of point-of-sale transactions

  • Oversee pool maintenance and respond to pool & facility emergencies

  • Prepare daily manager's report and collect staff timesheets

  • Other duties as necessary

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must have a Certified Pool Operators License or obtain within 6 months of hire. Must have demonstrated facility management and staff supervisory experience. Current American Red Cross Certificates in Lifeguarding and CPR and Water Safety Instructor certificate preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a large recreational center located at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. Center includes multi-pool aquatic facility, gymnasiums, fitness center and offices. Work is also performed outdoors at the Gold Star Pool located in East Cambridge during the Summer season.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Must be able to climb stairs; lift at least 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
