Job description

Title:
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Instructor
Reports to:
Principal /Assistant Principal in charge of CTE/Supervisor of CTE
General Definition of Work:
To develop and implement a rigorous Computer-Aided Design (CAD) instructional program that prepares students with industry-relevant drafting, design, and technical skills needed for employment and postsecondary education in architecture, engineering, manufacturing, and construction-related fields.
Essential Functions:
โ€ข Plan, develop, and deliver instruction in Computer-Aided Design aligned with Virginia CTE CAD/Drafting competencies and state standards.
โ€ข Instruct students using a variety of industry-standard CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar platforms, to develop technical drafting and design skills.
โ€ข Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications that are valued by business and industry partners and support workforce readiness.
โ€ข Provide hands-on, project-based learning experiences that simulate real-world drafting, design, and problem-solving scenarios.
โ€ข Guide student learning through differentiated instruction to meet varying skill levels and career interests.
โ€ข Maintain a classroom and lab environment that supports creativity, collaboration, and professional design practices.
โ€ข Ensure proper use and care of computer hardware, software licenses, and instructional resources.
โ€ข Evaluate student performance, skill mastery, and competency attainment; maintain accurate records; and communicate student progress to parents/guardians.
โ€ข Integrate employability skills, workplace professionalism, and career exploration into daily instruction.
โ€ข Collaborate with business and industry partners to align instruction with current workforce needs and expectations.
โ€ข Stay current with emerging design technologies, software updates, and industry trends through ongoing professional development.
โ€ข Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous improvement of the CAD program.
โ€ข Maintain compliance with school division policies, Virginia Department of Education requirements, and CTE program standards.
โ€ข Serve as a positive ambassador of Amherst County Public Schools and the CAD program within the school and community.
โ€ข Report student injuries, hazardous conditions, suspected child abuse, and other concerns as required by school division policy.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Education and Job Experience:
โ€ข Compensation based on education and experience in accordance with the Amherst County Public Schools Teachers' Salary Scale.
โ€ข Prior industry experience in drafting, design, engineering, or related technical fields preferred.
License/Endorsements:
โ€ข Valid Virginia teaching license with appropriate CTE endorsement or eligibility for Virginia CTE licensure through documented industry experience.
โ€ข Demonstrated proficiency in multiple CAD software platforms.
โ€ข Demonstrated understanding of Virginia CTE CAD/Drafting competencies and instructional requirements.
โ€ข Industry-recognized CAD certifications preferred (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
