Job description

Job Title: CSP Tech

Location: Morris Cancer Center

Department Name: Central Sterile Supply

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The CSP Technician is responsible for decontamination, assembly of instrument sets, operation of steam and Sterrad as well as all monitoring processes included with same.

Qualifications:

Required Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • CRCST- Certified Registered Central Service Technician thru IAHCSMM or CBSPD required

Experience:

  • 1-3 years progressive experience as a Certified Technician

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds and transport up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to endure standing for long durations

Scheduling Requirements

  • Full Time
  • Evening Shift

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for decontamination, assembly of instrument sets, operation of steam and Sterrad as well as all monitoring processes included with same
  • Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment
  • Perform multiple tasks that assist in the daily operation of all units as well as being responsible for customer service
  • Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which included and not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and procedures
  • Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure
  • Perform the operation of the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures
  • Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly
  • Uses appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipment
  • Communicates any issues that arise with instrument preparation to the Supervisor
  • Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures
  • Knows how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitor and document that all parameters have been met
  • Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as chemical s function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessary
  • Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely
  • manner
  • Assembles and distributes case carts accurately and in a timely manner
  • Shows basic knowledge of instrumentation
  • Communicates information related to instrumentation, equipment and supplies that may potentially delay or cancel surgery due to malfunctioned equipment or any other unusual occurrences in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate s knowledge on principles of sterile technique, universal precautions, fire, safety and disaster protocol, body mechanics and hazardous materials
  • Participates in quality and efficiency improvement activities and attends in-service programs
  • Maintains an unquestionable attendance record and Certification renewal requirements
  • Environment of Care:
  • Demonstrates the awareness of safety, security, life safety, preparedness and utility and equipment management policies competencies
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions
  • Adheres to Safety and Infection Control policies
  • Attends mandatory in-services
  • Demonstrates awareness of security, life safety, emergency preparedness and utility and equipment management policies and procedures
  • Helps maintain a safe and clean patient/work environment
  • Follows incident reporting procedures
