Position Overview
Fusion is seeking a CNC Applications Engineer who is equally comfortable:
· Developing and optimizing CNC machining processes
· Programming CAM toolpaths and validating machining strategies
· Running hands-on machining trials and experiments
· Working directly with customers in real production environments
This role is based on-site in Canton, Michigan when not traveling and will work extensively in the Fusion CNC Machining Lab Center, where machining applications are developed and validated.
Travel responsibilities include:
· Customer machining demonstrations
· Application validation trials
· Process optimization support
· Machine installations and startup assistance

Key Responsibilities
CNC Process Development
· Develop machining strategies utilizing PureCutTM supercritical CO2 lubrication technology
· Optimize machining across processes including:
• CNC milling
• CNC turning
• Swiss-style machining
• Drilling
• Grinding
· Develop machining strategies based on:
• Alloy type
• Cutting tool geometry
• Coating technology
• Tool holder and collet configuration
• Lubrication delivery strategy
· Design or modify cutting tools, tool holders, and collets to improve CO2 delivery to the cutting edge.
CNC Programming & Optimization
· Develop CNC toolpaths using Mastercam or similar CAM platforms
· Perform machining simulation and validation
· Optimize:
• Feeds and speeds
• Tool engagement
• Chip evacuation
• Burr reduction
• Surface finish
• Part quality
· Establish machining strategies that maximize the performance of PureCut technology.
Machining Validation & Testing
· Conduct machining trials in the Fusion CNC Machining Lab Center
· Setup and operate CNC machines for validation testing
· Perform:
• Machining experiments
• Tool wear analysis
• Cycle time benchmarking
• Machining parameter optimization
· Develop technical reports demonstrating customer value including:
• Cycle time improvements
• Tool life improvements
• Burr reduction
• Sustainability benefits
• Return on investment
Customer-Facing Technical Support
· Support customer adoption of PureCut technology through:
• Machining demonstrations
• Application development trials
• Process optimization
• Machine installations
• Production startup support
· Work directly with:
• Manufacturing engineers
• CNC programmers
• Machinists
• Production managers
· Provide technical insight to help customers improve machining performance.
CNC Lab Operations
· Support operation of the Fusion CNC Machining Lab Center
· Setup machines, tooling, and test programs
· Maintain safe operation of machining equipment
· Support EHS procedures related to high-pressure CO2 machining systems
· Machines may include:
• CNC mills
• CNC lathes
• Swiss-style machines
• Drilling and secondary machining platforms
Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Work closely with:
• Mechanical engineers
• Controls engineers
• Product development teams
• Sales engineering teams
· Support development of:
• Next-generation machining technologies
• New tool delivery concepts
• Improved machining solutions.
Qualifications
Junior Applications Engineer (Level I)
· 2 – 5 years of CNC machining, manufacturing engineering, or machining applications experience
· Exposure to CNC mills, lathes, or Swiss-style machines preferred
· Exposure to CAM software such as Mastercam preferred
· Comfortable with hands-on machine setup, tooling, and machining experimentation
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Senior Applications Engineer (Level II / Senior)
· 7+ years of CNC machining or applications engineering experience
· Proven experience optimizing CNC machining processes
· Strong experience with CNC programming or CAM software (Mastercam or similar)
· Experience supporting machining demonstrations, process development, or customer applications
· Experience machining advanced alloys such as titanium, stainless steel, or nickel superalloys preferred
Technical Skills (Preferred)
· CNC machining processes
· CAM programming (Mastercam preferred)

Additional Requirements
· On-site presence in Canton, MI when not traveling
