Director, Student Health Center (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)

Saint Louis University is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to serve as the next Director of the Student Health Center. This unique leadership opportunity combines approximately 50% direct patient care and 50% administrative leadership, allowing you to maintain an active clinical practice while guiding the strategic vision and operations of a comprehensive student health center.

As Director, you will lead an experienced multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting the health, well-being, and success of SLU students. Working within the Division of Student Development, you will help advance our Jesuit mission of cura personalis-care for the whole person-through an integrated approach to healthcare, wellness, prevention, and student support.

About the Role

The Director provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for Student Health Services and Physical Therapy at Saint Louis University. The position balances direct patient care with leadership responsibilities that support clinical excellence, operational effectiveness, and student-centered service delivery.

The Director reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Well-being and collaborates with campus partners and healthcare providers to ensure high-quality, accessible care for students.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice & Patient Care

  • Provide primary care services to Saint Louis University students in an outpatient setting
  • Conduct health assessments, physical examinations, preventive care, and follow-up treatment
  • Support patient care management and complex case consultation as needed
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals
  • Serve as an Epic EHR clinician, accessibility manager, and super user

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead the daily operations of the Student Health Center and Physical Therapy services
  • Guide strategic planning, goal setting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Oversee departmental policies, procedures, compliance efforts, and clinical best practices
  • Manage departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and operational planning
  • Monitor healthcare trends and recommend innovative approaches to student health services

Team Development

  • Provide leadership and support to clinical and administrative staff
  • Foster a collaborative, patient-centered culture focused on service excellence
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and professional development efforts
  • Partner with leadership staff to ensure effective staffing and service delivery

Campus & Community Collaboration

  • Partner with departments across the University to support student well-being and success
  • Participate on relevant committees, leadership teams, and campus initiatives
  • Collaborate with local healthcare systems, public health agencies, and community partners
  • Oversee student health and immunization compliance programs
  • Support campus health response planning and public health initiatives

On-Call Support

  • Participate in an administrative and clinical on-call structure that supports operational needs and student health concerns during non-business hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, or related health field
  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant eligible to practice in Missouri
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Five years of clinical experience, including leadership, supervisory, administrative, or program management responsibilities
  • Experience working with electronic health records (Epic experience preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in college health, ambulatory care, primary care, or student health settings
  • Experience managing clinical operations, budgets, and personnel
  • Knowledge of public health, healthcare compliance, and quality improvement practices
  • Experience collaborating across diverse teams and stakeholder groups
