Job description

SUMMARY

The Unit Coordinator serves as the primary administrative support for the nursing/clinical unit, ensuring smooth operations and communication between nursing staff, providers, patients, and other facility departments. This role coordinates scheduling, maintains accurate documentation, tracks and organizes patient care information, and supports the clinical team to ensure efficient and compliant operations within the correctional healthcare setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·  Coordinate daily operations of the assigned nursing or clinical unit.

·  Prepare and maintain patient census reports, logs, and records as required.

·  Schedule patient appointments, sick call, provider visits, and specialty consultations.

·  Communicate effectively with providers, nursing staff, and facility administration to ensure smooth care delivery.

·  Organize and maintain medical charts and electronic health records in compliance with facility and regulatory standards.

·  Track and follow up on pending diagnostic tests, lab results, and outside consultations.

·  Assist in coordinating admissions, discharges, and transfers.

·  Prepare required reports and data for leadership review.

·  Maintain adequate supplies for the unit and ensure equipment is in proper working order.

·  Support nursing staff by responding to phone calls, routing messages, and triaging administrative requests.

·  Assist in quality assurance activities, including chart audits and compliance tracking.

·  Perform other duties as assigned by the Health Services Administrator or Nursing Leadership.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

  • At least one (1) year of experience in a medical office, hospital, or healthcare administrative setting.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and scheduling systems preferred.

Required Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar applications.
