Job description

Principal Associate, Program Management | Retail Bank Marketing

Capital One, one of Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work For," is seeking a strategic, process-driven Principal Associate for our Retail Bank Marketing Portfolio & Project Management team.

Supporting the Campaign Delivery team, you will lead critical marketing initiatives that directly impact the company's bottom line. In this role, you will coordinate the development and execution of a diverse campaign portfolio, creating comprehensive project plans, managing dynamic timelines, and driving on-time delivery across broad, cross-functional teams.

General Responsibilities & Impact

  • Plan, design, and execute complex, multi-workstream marketing project plans from initial brief through to final deployment, ensuring deliverables meet scope, timeline, and budget requirements.

  • Apply structure to both large- and small-scale initiatives, driving project execution based on defined priorities while demonstrating the organizational agility to adapt to changing demands.

  • Proactively identify project risks, bottlenecks, and issues; develop mitigation strategies and independently escalate critical blockers when timelines are at risk.

  • Partner closely with project customers and internal teams, leveraging strong consulting and collaboration skills to provide both tactical direction and strategic thought partnership.

  • Forge deep relationships with cross-functional stakeholders across all levels of the organization, using outstanding communication skills to manage expectations, inform teams, and influence outcomes.

  • Facilitate the day-to-day traffic of creative assets through Legal, Risk, and Compliance reviews, ensuring feedback is documented, addressed by creative teams, and aligned with internal audit standards.

  • Coordinate and document critical project milestones, including kick-offs, stand-ups, and the movement of assets between designers and channel managers, to ensure clear version control and team accountability.

  • Lead post-launch retrospectives and support senior leads in "lessons learned" sessions by analyzing timeline data to pinpoint delays, drive structural change, and streamline business processes.

  • Own the weekly status reporting cadence, translating complex project updates into clear, concise summaries for the broader Campaign Delivery team.

  • Act as the team's project management software "power user" (e.g., Jira or Workfront), troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining data integrity, and enforcing a meticulous documentation "paper trail" to support compliance requirements.

  • Oversee the functional testing of marketing deployments, such as reviewing staging sites and email links, to guarantee the final customer experience flawlessly matches the project brief.

  • Maintain and scale team resources, process maps, and standard operating templates to ensure the department's "how-to" guides are always optimized and up to date.

What You Bring

  • Process Curiosity: You don't just follow a checklist; you want to understand how the pieces fit together and look for ways to make the workflow more efficient every day.

  • Task Management: Proficiency (or a high degree of comfort) with project management tools such as Workfront & Jira. You enjoy keeping digital workspaces clean and organized.

  • Clear Articulation: You can distill a long meeting into three clear action items. You are comfortable following up with partners to keep projects moving without being abrasive.

  • Collaborative Spirit: You thrive in a "we" environment. You are ready to partner with creative designers, legal analysts, and marketing strategists to get the job done.

  • Agility: You are comfortable with change. Whether it's a priority shift or a new tool rollout, you pivot quickly and help others do the same.

  • Resourcefulness: When you hit a snag, your first instinct is to look for a solution or a workaround before escalating the issue.

  • Risk Awareness: You have a basic understanding of why "the small stuff" (like legal disclaimers or brand colors) matters in a highly regulated industry like banking.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience.

  • At least 5 years of experience in Project, Program, or Process Management.

  • At least 3 years of experience leading projects across cross functional teams

  • At least 1 year of experience in Workfront

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or MBA

  • PMP, Lean, Agile, or Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

  • 7+ years of experience in Project Management, specifically within Marketing Operations or MarTech.

  • Agile delivery experience utilizing Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe methodologies

  • Financial Services or Fintech industry experience
