Position Overview

As a Business Operations Manager (BOM), you will lead a dynamic team of associates and serve as a key member of the store’s Senior Management team. This role is pivotal in shaping strategy, driving operational excellence, and creating an iconic customer and associate experience aligned with CarMax’s culture of integrity and innovation. You’ll collaborate across Sales, Service Operations, Merchandising, Logistics, and Customer Experience Centers to ensure seamless processes and exceptional results.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 10–30 associates, ensuring an exceptional customer experience throughout the buying and selling process.
  • Recruit, hire, and develop associates, foster a culture of career growth, and provide timely feedback and performance management, including development plans and annual reviews.
  • Create an engaging work environment through round tables, one-on-ones, and associate engagement meetings.
  • Champion company and store initiatives, ensuring consistent execution and continuous improvement.
  • Analyze data and manage P&L, identify opportunities for process improvements, and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while building relationships with agencies and vendors.
  • Responsible for CarMax Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements for your department and/or location, including workplace safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills to speak, listen, and write effectively across departments.
  • Proven ability to make independent, sound business decisions.
  • Skilled in data interpretation and record accuracy.
  • Ability to identify business opportunities and recommend improvements.
  • Completion of CarMax-provided training for operational excellence.
  • Flexibility for rotating schedules, nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of management experience, retail leadership preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Intermediate PC skills (Word, Excel, and related applications).
