Description

Position Overview: Development Associate

Under the direction of the Director of Operations & Advancement, the Development Associate will support United Way of Santa Barbara County's partnership and fundraising efforts across its portfolio of workplace and corporate giving campaigns, individual and general community campaigns, and Major Giving relationships. This position will support the successful implementation of annual fundraising strategies, providing cross-functional support across all revenue channels to ensure cohesive and productive donor engagement and fundraising opportunities. The Development Associate will play a key role in facilitating campaign management activities, communications, and presentations, with a special focus on United Way's workplace campaigns. 


Key Responsibilities:


DEVELOPMENT 

Under the direction of the Director of Operations & Advancement, support department operations and activities, including logistics, meetings, communications, and data management.  

Support the Corporate Partnerships Coordinator in stewarding United Way's portfolio of 100+ active workplace campaign accounts and prospects.  

Support relationship management logistics across United Way's general account portfolio, including updating of fundraising collateral, presentations, and records.  

Manage 20+ low-maintenance workplace campaign accounts and logistics, including processing rollovers, committee communications, and reporting. 

Encourage participation in key workplace affinity groups and honorary listings, including the Executive Club, Young Leaders Society, Leadership/ADT+ Giving Circles, and the Heritage Club. 

Prioritize United Way's commitment to its ethical, partnership-first approach in all revenue generation and development efforts. 

Initiate acknowledgements for all contributions at the Leadership Giving Circle ($1,000+) and above, including Workplace giving, individual gifts, foundations and institutions, 

Support the Database Coordinator in timely gift acknowledgements for workplace donors and workplace/committee leadership at the $1-$999 level.. 

Prioritize a positive, professional, and expert presence across all campaign relationships. 


CAMPAIGN FACILITATION 

Assist the Corporate Partnerships Coordinator in facilitating active workplace campaigns, including accounting and payroll processing, special events & presentations, and donation platform management. 

Support logistics for external Employee Campaign Managers, Department Representatives, and Campaign Committee volunteers to facilitate campaigns. 

Create and deliver campaign communications in line with established United Way templates and materials, including online giving sites and information, campaign toolkits, workplace publications and flyers, presentation decks, and emailed communications. 

Work with the Corporate Partnerships Coordinator, Database Coordinator, Chief Financial Officer, and external processing vendors to ensure consistent and accurate reporting, accounting, and payroll processing. 


EVENTS & REVENUE GENERATION  

Support department leadership in increasing all channels of workplace campaign revenue and meeting revenue expectations and goals, including special events, employee contributions, and corporate sponsorships and grants. 

Work with campaign committees and workplace leadership to establish employee engagement events and activities that generate revenue, employee awareness and engagement, and positive team culture. 

Assist in encouraging and facilitating donor participation in United Way annual events and activities, including the ADT & Leadership Reception, the United Luncheon, and Red Feather Ball. 

Support sponsorship request procedures and benefits for the United Luncheon and Red Feather Ball. 


CROSS FUNCTION & REPORTING

Collaborate with United Way's Community Impact team to maintain updated and impactful program updates, messaging, and impact stories. 

Work closely with Community Impact program teams to facilitate workplace and donor program engagement and volunteer opportunities such as Lunch Bunch, the Holiday Gift Drive, and site visits. 

Support program partnership opportunities with Community Impact staff that engage donors and partners, such as program delivery partners at Fun in the Sun.  

Collaborate closely with United Way's Finance & Operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, prompt processing and payroll updates, and clear designation requirements. 

Maintain all campaign updates, donor communications, event participation, and relationship updates in United Way's CRM tool. 

Prioritize clean donor data management, including communications, donor information, and financial reporting. 

Support department reporting procedures through tracking of critical success factors in account management and report findings. 

Additional duties may be assigned to this role as organizational projects, activities, and priorities evolve.

Requirements

  Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business, communications, fundraising or a related field.

1-2 years of fundraising experience preferred. 

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Familiarity with donor-centered communication strategies and approaches. 

Detail-oriented and able to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.

Self-motivated and eager to learn and contribute to team efforts.

Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.

Basic knowledge of event planning principles is preferred.Â
