This position is an Exempt salary role which normally works a
9/80 work schedule.  Non-duty hours work may be required based on business needROLE PURPOSE
Provide the analysis, process discipline, proposal support, and follow-through that enable Miltope’s Business Development Directors to focus on customer relationships, capture strategy, and priority pursuits.About MiltopeMiltope Corporation develops and manufactures rugged computing, aviation mission systems, and defense technologies for military, government, and commercial customers. Our culture emphasizes transparency, integrity, quality, and exceptional customer service.What You Will DoBased in Huntsville and reporting directly to the Huntsville-based Director of Business Development, you will support Miltope’s growth organization through disciplined pipeline management, market and competitive analysis, capture coordination, and proposal development. You will work closely with both Business Development Directors and coordinate inputs from Engineering, Program Management, Finance, Contracts, and Operations.
This is an analytical and execution-focused role. Corporate marketing, brand management, social media, website content, and routine promotional communications remain the responsibility of the Marketing Associate and the broader marketing function.Essential ResponsibilitiesPipeline, Forecasting & Reporting• Maintain an accurate, current business development pipeline, including opportunity status, capture phase, customer, value, probability, risks, milestones, and next actions.
• Prepare weekly and monthly pipeline reports, bookings forecasts, trend analyses, and executive-level BD metrics.
• Maintain data quality and consistency across CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce), spreadsheets, and related BD systems.
• Track follow-up actions from customer engagements, capture reviews, and internal BD meetings.Market & Competitive Analysis• Conduct structured research on defense budgets, acquisition plans, procurement trends, target customers, competitors, and adjacent markets.
• Monitor customer portals, procurement forecasts, solicitations, industry publications, and other relevant sources.
• Prepare concise analyses that support opportunity qualification, bid/no-bid decisions, account planning, and capture strategy.
• Develop and maintain organized market, customer, and competitive intelligence files.Capture Coordination• Support capture plans, schedules, gate reviews, action-item tracking, and cross-functional coordination for priority pursuits.Prepare capture meeting agendas, briefing packages, decision materials, and status updates.
• Coordinate timely inputs from Business Development, Engineering, Program Management, Finance, Contracts, and Operations.
• Maintain capture records, risk registers, customer engagement logs, and pursuit documentation.Proposal & RFI/RFP Support• Support development of RFIs, RFP responses, white papers, capability statements, and other customer submissions.
• Create and maintain compliance matrices, proposal schedules, outlines, templates, version control, and document repositories.
• Coordinate proposal inputs and reviews, and assist with writing, editing, formatting, proofreading, and final production.
• Maintain an organized library of proposals, past performance, resumes, templates, pricing artifacts, and reusable content.Customer & Event Support• Prepare customer meeting materials, technical summaries, briefing books, and follow-up packages.
• Provide analytical and logistical support for selected customer visits, product demonstrations, and priority industry events.
• Travel periodically to support customer engagements, demonstrations, and defense industry events.
• Capture and route leads, customer feedback, and follow-up actions to the responsible Business Development Director.Role Boundaries & Interfaces• The Huntsville-based Director of Business Development is the position’s direct supervisor and sets priorities, evaluates performance, and resolves workload conflicts.
• The remote Business Development Director may assign and coordinate work through the direct supervisor or an agreed shared-priority process.
• The Business Development Directors retain ownership of customer relationships, opportunity qualification, capture strategy, teaming strategy, and pursuit decisions.
• Miltope’s Marketing Associate retains primary responsibility for corporate marketing, brand management, social media, website content, promotional campaigns, and routine marketing communications.
• The BD Analyst may support marketing materials or events when required for a specific capture or customer engagement, but does not own the corporate marketing function.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics, Communications, or a related discipline.
• Two to five years of experience in business development analysis, capture support, proposal coordination, market research, government contracting, or a related role.
• Strong analytical, research, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to distill complex information into concise executive and customer-facing materials.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint; experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) strongly preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, maintain accurate records, and follow through with limited supervision.
• Ability and willingness to travel periodically.Preferred Qualifications• Experience supporting defense, aerospace, rugged electronics, manufacturing, or government-contracting organizations.
• Familiarity with DoD acquisition, federal budgets, FAR/DFARS, RFIs, RFPs, and proposal processes.
• Experience with Microsoft D365 or a comparable ERP environment.
• Experience developing dashboards, forecasts, financial models, competitive analyses, or executive briefings.
