Job description

ZimZee Recruiting is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for our avionics client in Wichita, Kansas. The manager will lead cross-functional development of electro-mechanical aerospace products across the full product lifecycle—from concept and design through certification, production launch, and ongoing support. This role oversees multiple concurrent development programs, manages engineering staff, and ensures projects meet technical, regulatory, schedule, and cost objectives in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate combines strong leadership capability with hands-on technical depth and experience delivering certified products.


Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience developing electro-mechanical products
  • 5+ years of direct engineering team leadership experience
  • Proven experience managing full product lifecycle development programs
  • Experience working in regulated industries (aerospace, defense, aviation, or similar)
  • Background supporting certification and compliance with regulatory authorities (FAA or equivalent)
  • Strong project execution skills managing scope, schedule, cost, and performance targets
  • Experience operating within manufacturing or production-release environments
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in matrixed engineering organizations
  • Familiarity with environmental qualification standards such as DO-160 (preferred)

  • Lead multiple simultaneous product development programs from concept through certification, production rollout, and lifecycle support
  • Manage, mentor, and develop engineering staff while driving accountability and performance
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal quality requirements across all development phases
  • Drive execution against technical milestones, schedules, budgets, and performance objectives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, sales, and program stakeholders
  • Support certification activities and technical interactions with regulatory agencies such as the FAA
  • Contribute to technical problem solving, design reviews, and evaluation of emerging technologies for integration into future products
