Job Summary

The Business Banking Specialist is a critical client-facing role within Flagstar's Business Banking division, responsible for client onboarding, ongoing servicing, and operational support for business clients within the $10M-$50M annual revenue segment. This role operates within a collaborative pod structure alongside a Business Development Officer (BDO) and Relationship Manager (RM), ensuring clients receive a seamless, high-quality banking experience from day one.
The BBS serves as the operational backbone of the pod-coordinating across internal teams to deliver exceptional service, resolve client needs efficiently, and support the overall health and growth of the portfolio.

Job Responsibilities:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Onboarding & Account Setup

  • Lead the end-to-end client onboarding process for newly acquired business banking relationships
  • Coordinate account opening documentation, KYC/BSA requirements, and system setup across internal departments
  • Ensure a smooth transition from the Business Development Officer/Relationship Manager to active client status
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new clients during the onboarding period, setting expectations and providing guidance on available products and services
  • Conduct onboarding calls and welcome communications to establish a strong initial client experience

Ongoing Client Servicing & Support

  • Serve as the day-to-day operational contact for assigned business banking clients, resolving inquiries and service requests with urgency and professionalism
  • Manage routine client needs including account maintenance, online banking support, and product inquiries
  • Proactively communicate with clients regarding account updates, product enhancements, and service changes
  • Identify and escalate complex client issues to the BDO/RM or appropriate internal teams for resolution
  • Monitor client satisfaction and flag potential attrition risks to the pod team

Documentation & Compliance Coordination

  • Prepare, collect, and review required documentation for account openings, credit facilities, and ongoing compliance requirements
  • Ensure all client files and records are maintained in accordance with bank policies and regulatory standards
  • Support annual review processes by gathering financial statements, insurance certificates, and other required documentation
  • Coordinate with Credit Administration, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure timely processing of client requests

Cross-Functional Coordination & Pod Support

  • Operate as an integral member of the Business Banking pod (BDO + RM + BBS), ensuring coordinated client coverage and communication
  • Support the Business Development Officer and Relationship Manager with research, preparation of client materials, and meeting coordination
  • Collaborate with internal product partners including Treasury Management, Payments, and Operations to deliver solutions and resolve issues
  • Maintain accurate client records, notes, and activity logs within the CRM platform
  • Assist with pipeline tracking and reporting as needed

Referral Identification & Portfolio Growth Support

  • Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships through additional products and services
  • Generate qualified referrals to the Relationship Manager, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, and other internal partners
  • Support client retention efforts by ensuring high service quality and proactive outreach
  • Assist with client event coordination and communication campaigns

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Adhere to all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in the execution of client servicing activities
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in identifying and escalating potential risks, including fraud, compliance concerns, and operational issues
  • Participate in required compliance training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulations
  • Support the bank's Enterprise Risk Management framework through diligent documentation and process adherence
  • Uses independent judgement and discretion to make decisions
  • Analyzes and resolves problems

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance training. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications:

  • Education level required: High School / High School Equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC) / Foreign Equivalent
  • Minimum experience required: 4+ Years of experience in banking, financial services, or a client-facing support role
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with banking systems, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-through skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education level preferred: Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) in business, finance or some other related field
  • Experience in business banking, commercial banking operations, or client servicing
  • Knowledge of business banking products including deposits, lending, treasury management, and payments
  • Experience with client onboarding processes, KYC/BSA documentation, and account administration
  • Familiarity with commercial loan documentation and credit support functions
  • Experience working within a team-based or pod coverage model
  • Proven ability to identify cross-sell opportunities and generate internal referrals
