Associate Business Analyst

Seeking an Associate Business Analyst to support the Business Analytics and Testing Support Team. This role works under the guidance of experienced analysts to document business needs, analyze processes, and assist in ensuring that customer requirements are clearly understood and translated into actionable work for technical teams. The Associate BA contributes to both Agile (Sprint) and Waterfall Software Development Lifecycle activities and helps ensure customers' needs remain central throughout development and testing.

Support efforts to understand customer processes, pain points, and business needs by participating in discussions with stakeholders and technical teams. Build foundational knowledge of business applications and organizational data management concepts to better support customer-focused analysis. Assist in identifying root causes of system issues by gathering information, reviewing documentation, and conducting basic process analysis. Help diagram current-state processes and proposed improvements using process flows, context diagrams, and data-flow diagrams under the direction of senior analysts. Contribute to documenting requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria with a focus on accuracy and clarity. Support the decomposition of traditional requirements into Agile Epics, Features, and User Stories that clearly reflect user needs. Assist in mapping user stories to technical design documents, ensuring clarity and alignment between business goals and technical specifications. Help identify related user stories, dependencies, and priorities in collaboration with senior analysts and the Product Owner. Support backlog refinement activities by maintaining well-organized user stories and requirements documentation. Participate in testing activities, including helping draft test objectives, test plans, and test cases. Execute basic functional and regression tests and document results to support solution quality. Help coordinate and facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including capturing stakeholder feedback and communicating progress to project leads. Recommend and assist in implementing internal improvements to BA team processes, including creating or enhancing tools and workflows using Power Apps or Power Automate.

Bachelor's degree in business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Administration, or related field; or in equivalent combination of education and experience. Internship or academic project experience involving business analysis, requirements documentation, process mapping, or solution evaluation. Previous VDOT experience related to Business Analysis, Management Analytics, and/or Power Apps/Power Automate preferred 0 to 2 years of experience in business analysis, project support, data analysis, or related work. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document information clearly. Foundational understanding of Agile and traditional Waterfall SDLC concepts. Basic understanding of data analysis and organizational data structures. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively and receive guidance in a team environment. Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn VDOT systems, processes, and analysis standards.
