Job Summary/Basic Functions
The University of Mary Washington has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Small Business Associate Consultant. The chief objectives of the position are to provide:
- to provide confidential consulting to SBDC clients, with a focus on helping clients develop marketing strategies and implementation plans;
- to support SBDC services by moderating and marketing SBDC training events in Planning Districts 16, 17, and 18. (Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Agreements are required for this position.);
- to support Start Up UMW programs for high school and UMW students.
Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding of principles of marketing, including consumer behavior and decision-making
- Proficient in developing marketing strategies and implementation plans
- Self-motivated and able to work well with minimal supervision
- Ability to work well with others, employ diplomacy and tact, and pursue clarity through appropriate channels
- Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Familiar with the workings of the SBDC network
Required Experience:
- Experience with the development of marketing strategies for real businesses (experience can be paid employment and/or experiential learning opportunities for college credit)
- Prior experience working with small business owners in an advising capacity
- Experience with client information management systems
Required Licensure:
- Must possess a valid Driver's License to operate a University/state owned or leased vehicle
Additional Considerations:
KSAs:
- Understands the application of organizational structures and legal liability
- Comfortable speaking before groups of people in-person and virtually
Experience:
- Experience in an SBDC, economic development organization, or university affiliated business support program
- Experience in using AI for business research
Education:
- Completion of a college degree accredited college/university in business administration or related field, with major or minor in marketing
