Job Summary:

Rotational 3x3 Mechanic

Responsible for all aspects of maintenance and the repairing of the facilities, heavy, medium and light-duty equipment in and out of the shop. The position is a rotational position with the potential for additional overtime. In the fleet department within Delta Western, you will find a wide variety of equipment and machinery to maintain. This variety allows you the chance to expand your skill set and stay up to date with the latest technology. The mechanic will primarily work with their team to repair and maintain Tank Trucks, Flatbeds, Light Duty Vehicles and Support Equipment used to transport petroleum products throughout the road system.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct DOT inspections
  • Maintain PM Schedules and repair documentation within our system
  • Identifies all greasing points that are included in the PM Service for heavy, medium and light duty equipment
  • Trouble shoot and repair heavy duty equipment air braking systems.
  • Has basic equipment knowledge including where battery disconnect switches are, the proper way to power up and power down equipment, and understands the starting procedures of equipment
  • Analyze, diagnose, repair, rebuild and provide maintenance of heavy, medium and light duty equipment such as tank trucks, forklifts, trailers, diesel heaters and pumping systems.
  • Dismantles, repairs, and reassembles equipment using hoists, hand tools and pneumatic and electric tools.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance.
  • Work on engines, structural systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, and subassemblies such as transmissions and differentials and pumping systems and tank plumbing.
  • Routinely perform safety and productivity observations: shop, field, vehicle, and equipment.
  • Perform duties in the shop or in the field as necessary.

  • Travel required to multiple locations up to 50% of the time
  • Ability to perform brake services and inspections
  • Knowledge of relevant methods, procedures, tools, and equipment
  • Qualification to perform brake services or inspections through firsthand training and/or experience
  • Experience with welding aluminum and steel components.
  • MUST FOLLOW ALL SAFETY REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS
  • Other duties may be assigned
Education and Experience:
  • Class B Commercial Operator’s License (CDL) is required or must obtain Class B CDL within six months of assignment to the position.
  • Must have current ASE Certifications and/or Automotive certifications and/or Medium/Heavy Truck certifications.
  • Any Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification can be substituted for any one ASE certification. Certifications must be kept current and renewed in a timely manner.
  • 5 years’ experience required as heavy diesel mechanic or 10 years’ experience required as a technician in another fleet or retail automotive environment; or completion of industry trade school (or college courses) related to automotive, or diesel technology required.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
