Job description

The Body Repair Technician is responsible for repairing and restoring damaged school buses and fleet vehicles to ensure they meet company safety standards, state and federal regulations, and manufacturer specifications. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity, appearance, and safety of the fleet to support safe student transportation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review damage reports, perform inspections, and prepare accurate repair estimates.
  • Plan and prioritize repair work to minimize vehicle downtime and support fleet availability.
  • Repair structural and non-structural body damage, including panel replacement, dent repair, and frame adjustments as needed.
  • Fit, align, and weld replacement parts using appropriate welding equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Grind, sand, file, and smooth repaired surfaces to ensure proper finish and dimensional accuracy.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding and masking; apply fillers, resins, primers, and other materials according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Mix and apply polyester resins, hardeners, and other refinishing materials safely and accurately.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure proper fit, finish, functionality, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Properly use, maintain, and store tools, equipment, and materials to conserve resources and ensure longevity.
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians and operations staff to support overall fleet readiness.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the maintenance team.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training or certification in Auto Body Repair and Paint Technology preferred.
  • 2+ years of auto body repair experience preferred (heavy-duty or bus experience a plus).
  • Valid driver's license required as well as CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Training will be provided.

  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in auto body repair techniques, welding, refinishing, and use of hand and power tools.
  • Safety Knowledge: Understanding of vehicle safety systems and compliance requirements related to school buses.
