Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
3. Valid Colorado commercial driver's license with "S" endorsement.
- CDL training available upon hire.
4. Possess current First Aid Certificate and CPR acquire within 90 days.
5. Pass the annual Colorado Department of Education School Bus Operators Test (written and skills).
6. Meet District's requirements for insurability.
7. Must pass DOT physical
8. Must have a record of safe driving per motor vehicle record check
9. Must pass drug/alcohol screen per Board Policy EEAEAA an EEAEAA-R
Job Goals:
Responsible for driving the bus, maintaining order, exercising appropriate discipline and ensuring the safety and welfare of all passengers. Provide safe transportation of children on district owned school buses.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Safely operate school buses in various weather conditions.
2. Maintain control of passenger conduct and ensure safety of passengers while in route. Implement discipline as necessary.
3. Monitor student behavior and maintain order and discipline on bus.
4. Provide care and assistance to all passengers. Assist students who need aid in loading and unloading process.
5. Inspect and ensure that all equipment, instruments, safety devices, and vehicles meet requirements and are operating properly before and after driving duties. Maintain adequate levels of fuel, engine oil, and coolant.
6. Perform pre and post trip inspections of district vehicles to comply with DOT, CDE and District 8 regulations, policies and standards.
7. Inspect and ensure the interior and exterior cleanliness of the assigned bus.
8. Communicate with Transportation personnel, students and school officials. Distribute bus incident referrals to designated schools or locations.
9. Report emergencies, breakdowns, delays, and/or accidents timely to the Transportation Supervisor
10. Attend safety and in-service meetings.
11. Prepare for and execute emergency bus evacuation drills.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures governing vehicle / school transportation operations.
2. Ability to operate all district transportation vehicles.
3. Ability to apply and wear district provided safety equipment.
4. Ability to perform pre / post trip requirements unassisted.
5. Ability to communicate effectively.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with others and be a team player.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Salary:
Bus Drivers are on the Classified Salary Schedule.
- FFC8 allows new hires to bring in up to 8 years of previous experience in similar school type settings.
- Please understand that new hires tend to start out at the lower end of the salary range.
