Job Summary:

The Charleston Shuttle Supervisor is responsible for the daily coordination and oversight of shuttle operations at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Charleston, SC. This role involves supervising a team of drivers while ensuring compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and safety regulations. Additional responsibilities will include fleet management, maintenance & repair, recruitment/supervision of drivers, and operational reporting.

Compensation: Starting salary of $55,000-$60,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Location: Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, 109 Bee St, Charleston, SC 29401

Schedule: Monday-Friday

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and schedule vehicle inspections, maintenance, and servicing; manage preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Reduce unnecessary expenses and repairs.
  • Secure the fleet’s compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Report fleet performance and finances to upper management.
  • Handle incident response for all fleet issues, accidents, defects related to vehicles, etc.
  • Manage shuttle team.
  • Properly schedule shuttle to stay within contracted hours on weekly basis.
  • Assist in hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions of employees.
  • Follow safe driving procedures and safety protocols at all times.
  • Abide by all rules and regulations set by the VA.
  • Conduct pre/post trip shuttle inspections prior to and after scheduled shift.
  • Maintain shuttle in excellent condition by re-fueling, cleaning, and managing repairs/maintenance as needed.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the Regional Manager and/or the Director of Operations.
  • Uphold high standards of employees on site
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years related experience.
  • Must pass and maintain a criminal background check and have a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must possess strong customer service skills and the ability to respond calmly and professionally when handling conflict.
  • Regularly work outdoors in inclement weather including rain, snow, heat and cold
  • Must have the ability to work independently and within established guidelines, follow directions, and work well with others.
  • Technical capabilities and basic computer knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organizational skills & attention to detail.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

Experience Requirements

  • 1-year management experience, required.
  • 1-year CDL driving experience, required.
  • 1-year fleet maintenance and repair experience, required.
  • Commercial passenger vehicle experience, preferred

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid/Current Commercial Driver’s License with P endorsement
  • Valid/Current DOT Medical Certificate

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting while driving shuttle bus.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to clearly see during light and dark conditions.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, and effectively secure wheelchairs in place with straps.
  • Must be able to perform detailed maintenance checks under the hood and around engine bay of shuttle bus.
