Job description

Position Description Harris County Precinct 4 is seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Bus Driver to transport passengers to and from designated locations. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, comfortable, and timely travel while providing outstanding customer service. The ideal candidate embodies our core values of Heart, Hustle, and Higher Standards-demonstrating compassion for passengers, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to excellence in every trip.

Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure the safety and security of all passengers throughout transport. Assist passengers with boarding, seating, deboarding, and loading/unloading of equipment. Maintain a comfortable environment by regulating heating, ventilation, and lighting systems.

Operate vehicles in full compliance with traffic laws and safety regulations. Immediately report any delays, accidents, or vehicle malfunctions; take appropriate corrective actions and document them. Conduct pre-trip inspections to confirm the vehicle's operable condition and complete required trip reports.

Review route details, including maps or GPS directions, prior to departure. Arrive at pickup locations 30 minutes before scheduled departure. Maintain vehicle cleanliness by refueling, removing trash, and washing, sweeping, and mopping after each trip.

Refrain from using tobacco products in Precinct 4 vehicles. Accurately document daily trip information and submit receipts and reports as required. Assist with Precinct 4 events and community centers with light clerical or office tasks when needed.

Regularly perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and entering/exiting the bus; must meet the physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather, vibration, and moderate noise levels. Maintain, service, and clean the bus lavatory as needed.

Represent Precinct 4 with professionalism at all times, including assisting constituents and reinforcing bus rules as necessary. Participate in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery operations. Other duties as assigned in support of Precinct 4 operations and our commitment to service excellence.

Requirements Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Licensure: Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledgeable of driving safety practices, traffic laws, and regulations.

Clean driving record and the ability to operate a bus safely in a variety of traffic and weather conditions. Willingness and physical ability to drive for extended periods and perform manual tasks such as vehicle cleaning. Ability to follow routes using GPS or physical maps.

Must possess a friendly, respectful, and positive demeanor. Strong verbal communication skills. Willingness to attend and maintain certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid training as provided by Precinct 4.

NOTE: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge and skills must be documented on your job application. Preferences At least two (2) years of driving experience with larger vehicles, around 40ft. Must have driven large buses (around 40ft length) within the last two years. Must have and maintain a good driving record.

Demonstrates a professional and positive representation of Commissioner Precinct 4 through appearance, conduct, and public interactions. A commitment to Heart by showing empathy, patience, and professionalism with all passengers. A sense of Hustle through reliability, punctuality, and a proactive attitude toward trip preparation and problem-solving.

A drive for Higher Standards by consistently maintaining vehicle cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness. Familiarity with local roads and major destinations within Harris County and surrounding areas. Flexibility and a team-first mindset when responding to scheduling changes or assisting with special events.

Basic clerical skills for completing reports and submitting documentation accurately and on time. Confidence using navigation systems and reading maps. A customer service mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
