JOB TITLE: Bus Driver/Assistant Teacher (Full-Time)

DEPARTMENT: Hualapai Head Start

SUMMARY OF POSITION:


This position is part time Bus Driver and part time Teacher Assistant. The employee is responsible for driving the bus, safe transportation of children, parents, and staff. As the bus driver, you will be responsible for vehicle maintenance and reporting. As the Assistant Teacher, you'll work as part of a teaching team to work as a partner with the lead teacher in developing activities for preschool (Head Start) children to provide them with varied experiences and an appropriate learning environment. Work with developing children and children with disabilities. Assistance is given to the teacher in carrying out the goals, policies, and activities designed to implement educational objectives and performance standards. This position may be assigned additional duties based upon program need and areas of developing expertise. This position works along the lead teacher to attain the goals of the program. The position may be reassigned to various classroom/center as deemed necessary for program operations.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Safely transports Head Start children, Staff, Chaperones, and parents to and from planned Head Start activities.
  • Mandatory reporter of all incidents of child abuse and neglect.
  • Plan and implement regular bus evacuation drills and provide training.
  • Know necessary protocols in transporting children with special needs.
  • Complete monthly reporting and maintain fuel and servicing records.
  • Maintain Cleanliness of all Head Start vehicles.
  • Complete inspections on bus and all program vehicles on a regular basis.
  • Assists the teacher in all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities including lesson plans.
  • Comprehends the importance to Active Supervision and implements all 6 strategies daily.
  • Provide sufficient and appropriate outdoor time daily for children according to Head Start Operations Manual. Dressing clothing which is appropriate for outdoor activity and all weather conditions.
  • Assists in developing materials and providing activities related to the cultural background of the children and families served.
  • Participates in the screening, observation and documentation of children.
  • Completes daily observations for TSG daily and documentations into the TSP program.
  • Helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children to encourage good nutrition and proper social skills.
  • Helps keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.
  • Influences staff through effective communications.
  • Makes decisions and recommendations that are in the best interest of the organization and the Hualapai Tribe.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education & Experience:

  • Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Candidates must have a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; OR can obtain a OHS Teacher Waiver by Head Start Director
  • Be enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of being hired into the position;
  • An Associate or baccalaureate degree (in any area); or
  • Be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.
  • Must have a current Class B CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsement
  • Level one fingerprint clearance card.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate both written and orally.
  • Ability to follow directions from both written and oral instructions
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate with families and children in a positive and helpful manner.
  • Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from community.

Other:

  • Ability to exhibit patience and tact when communicating with children, families, staff, management, referral sources and the public.
  • Ability to project professionalism in conducting daily activities.
  • Must be able to work Monday-Thursday
  • Must be able to attend training and travel
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must pass a background investigations and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must be able to pass or meet tribal insurance policy and procedures.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year experience of working with preschool aged children.
