Reports To: Transportation Director and Bus Driver
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
The Bus Aide assists the school bus driver in providing safe and orderly transportation for students. The aide helps assist students with special needs, and ensures that all students enter and exit the bus appropriately. The aide will assist in the responsibility for the well being of the students on the bus while in our care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists the bus driver with maintaining order and safety on the bus.
  • Help students safely enter and exit the bus, including those with disabilities or mobility challenges.
  • Secure students in safety restraints, car seats, or harnesses as required.
  • Will be responsible to ensure students are secured in their respected seats and that wheelchairs are secured properly and safe for transport.
  • Monitor student behavior and report disciplinary concerns to the driver and/or supervisor.
  • Will report all student disciplinary to the building principle in writing within one work day.
  • Provide assistance in case of an emergency, including evacuations.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Assist with loading/unloading equipment, backpacks, and medical devices as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district transportation policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Follow the guidelines set forth in the schoo, hand book at all times.
  • Will help maintain the cleanliness of the bus.
  • Will attend all state and corporation required meetings and trainings.
Qualifications
  • Must be 19 years of age or older with a valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, including those with special needs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist students as needed.
  • Training in first aid/CPR preferred (may be required by district).
  • May be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Work Environment
  • Primarily works on a school bus in varying weather conditions.
  • May require bending, lifting, and assisting students physically.

Salary $15.50 Starting, $16.00 after completion of 30 working probation period.
Other Duties
