Job description

Job Title

This position is responsible for collaborating with Burleigh County Library staff to deliver public services and programs at scheduled stops, supporting day-to-day operations, processing new materials, loading and off-loading the collection from the bookmobile vehicle, and performing routine collection maintenance.

Examples of Duties

• Provides readers' advisory services and instructs patrons in the use of the Burleigh County Library and its resources, including the bookmobile. • Drives and operates the bookmobile, assists with routine interior and exterior cleaning, and fills the bookmobile with fuel. • Troubleshoots day-to-day operations in the absence of the Head of Burleigh County Library. • Loads and unloads books and materials from the bookmobile to library storage shelves prior to and after daily runs. • Assists with selecting library materials for the bookmobile. • Shelves returned materials. • Implements programs such as story times, senior activities, and book clubs in conjunction with scheduled stops and outreach events. • Proficiently uses the library's computerized circulation system and online catalog to create new borrower records; check items in and out to patrons; search for and request items; and handle overdue notices. • Performs technical processing of new materials for checkout, including stamping new and withdrawn materials, printing spine labels, installing Mylar covers, and reinforcing paperbound items. • Participates in Leadership Team meetings and professional development opportunities. • Participates in the request for reconsideration process aligned with the library's Collection Development Policy. • Communicates frequently with the Head of Burleigh County Library, Library Administration, and Leadership Team members to ensure smooth overall library operation, including the development of policies and procedures that affect areas of responsibility. • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree is required. • A valid North Dakota driver's license and a clear driving record are required. • Two years of satisfactory work experience in a public setting is required. • Two years of satisfactory work experience in a library setting is preferred.

Supplemental Information

• Must have demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication. • Must have demonstrated proficiency utilizing computer hardware and software. • Must understand and communicate the library's operational policies to the public. • Must understand and regularly review the City of Bismarck's employee policies and the library's operational policies and procedures. • Must be familiar with, affirm, and uphold the library's guiding principles: mission, vision, and value statements. • Must carry oneself with professionalism and integrity with all internal and external library stakeholders, assuming positive intent in others' actions, words, and behaviors. • Must have demonstrated ability to work effectively under busy and stressful conditions. • Must be flexible with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, processes, and work environments. • Must be adaptable to flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends. • Must adhere to the library's Dress Code Policy.
