Job description

STRUCTURAL BUILDING SYSTEMS ENGINEER (BSE) I

Why This Role Matters

As a Building Systems Engineer, you are responsible for the design of building systems for projects across our practice areas, elevating their capabilities and creating a more sustainable world in the process. You would be part of a team whose structural engineering services are grounded in the use of advanced engineering techniques, diverse material selection and sustainability measures.

What You Will Do

  • Asses how gravity, wind and seismic loads interact, ensuring designs meet or exceed building codes and safety standards.
  • Research and apply current technology and stay abreast of new and upcoming technologies
  • Design and analyze complex structural systems, from multi-story buildings and infrastructure projects to industrial systems.
  • Execute detailed structural drawings and design calculations
  • Develop and prepare project specifications for structural building projects.
  • Oversee the construction phase of the project, reviewing submittals, inspecting work, and resolving field issues.
  • Supervise junior engineers assist in their growth and development.


What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience
  • AutoCAD/Revit experience
  • Design program experience such as Enercalc, RISA, Bentley Structural System or equivalent required
  • Professional Licensure
  • Expertise in load path analysis, gravity and lateral load design with a proficiency in concrete, steel, and composite materials, plus foundation design for various project types.
  • An ability to perform difficult technical computations and consolidate acquired data
  • Ability to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines
  • In-depth knowledge of IBC, ASCE-7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and relevant local or national codes.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office tools
  • Effective leadership, and strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Engineering, analytical, and technical writing skills with attention to detail
  • An understanding of construction plans/specifications

The rate for this position generally ranges between $81-$102K annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employees already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
