Job description

Overview

The Assistant Building Manager (ABM) is responsible for the efficient day-to-day operation of the warehouse with particular emphasis on the management of the warehouse personnel and the implementation of warehouse action plans. The tracking and recording of equipment, hours, assurance that equipment maintenance schedules are followed, employee meetings are conducted, and the implementation / sustainment of continuous improvement within the designated facility.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the warehouse to meet service standards.
  • Ensures proper labor coverage for daily workload.
  • Provides direct supervision to all Warehouse Supervisors, Leads and Employees.
  • Ensures compliance with both internal and external SOPs and Standard Work.
  • In partnership with the Building Manager, assists in developing a program to train and motivate personnel for increased effectiveness.
  • Develops and implements shipping and receiving work schedules and assignments to assure effective and efficient operations.
  • In partnership with the Building Manager, makes recommendations to the Director/General Manager on initiatives to improve warehouse operations.
  • Interacts with customers on a daily basis and attends regular customer service meetings.
  • Directs the operations of the warehouse personnel to achieve prescribed objectives. Ensures a productive staff by supporting created programs for hiring, training and professional development.
  • Assists in matching the skills and background of personnel to work required.
  • Assists in developing and implementing daily plans for allocating equipment to jobs.
  • Responsible for the management of equipment.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of equipment with local vendors.
  • Maintains a professional and courteous relationship with customers and ensures that all personnel do the same.
  • In partnership with the Building Manager, maintains warehouse metrics, control charts and CI plans to ensure acceptable productivity and labor margins.

  • Ability and availability to work irregular or extended hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed by the customer.

Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of management experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Computer applications experience using MS Office; intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency is expected.
  • Computer applications experience using WMS; must be able to navigate this system.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse / mechanical equipment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, HAZMAT, FDA (as needed) regulations and the willingness to become certified in one or more of these areas as necessary.
