Summary:
The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a full time Building Facility Foreman. The Building Facility Foreman position has a wide variety of duties requiring a broad range of skills related to building maintenance including heating, cooling, electrical, and water systems. Incumbents work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and moves in and around confined spaces. This is a working building facility foreman position that is subject to mandatory on call rotating shifts; some after hours and weekend call-backs. This announcement will be used to fill a vacancy at the North Idaho Correctional Institution (NICI) located in Cottonwood, Idaho.
Responsibilities:
  1. Determines needs and makes arrangements for contracted services and negotiates with subcontractors to determine schedules, needs, and changes.
  2. Inspects work for compliance with contract.
  3. Estimates budgets/cost expenditures, and projects future needs.
  4. Lays out locations for staging and special events and directs set-up and maintenance.
  5. Evaluates equipment life expectancy and replaces as appropriate.
  6. Writes maintenance reports; meets with tenants, program directors, maintenance personnel, and others to define needs and to keep facility organized and running smoothly.
  7. Trains, supervises, and maintains custody of a working crew of residents.
  8. Conducts searches for weapons, tools, and contraband.
  9. Responds to emergency situations as requested by shift commander.
  10. Examines interior and exterior of buildings for damage and initiates necessary repair.
  11. Maintains plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and related systems.
  12. Performs facility maintenance work including plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, inspection of systems for proper operation and preventative maintenance, and related work for proper operation of facility.

Minimum Qualifications: Your resume needs to clearly articulate how your skills, education and experience meet the qualifications below -
  1. Considerable knowledge of building maintenance. Typically gained by at least one year of experience and training in commercial building maintenance, equipment technologies, and operating techniques.
  2. Good knowledge of building codes. Typically gained by a seminar or formal training in building code content and interpretation OR at least six months in a position where it may be determined that code interpretation was an integrated portion of the applicant's responsibility.
  3. Some knowledge of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) related work. Typically gained by at least six months of paid work experience maintaining and/or repairing HVAC systems in a commercial environment.
  4. Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by completing a class or seminar (more than one day), specifically covering supervisory practices OR leadwork experience that required work direction, monitoring work, and making work assignments (such experience on a fill-in basis is not qualifying unless for a period of approximately three months or more).
  5. Experience performing skilled repair and maintenance in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, building maintenance, and grounds related work. Typically, gained by approximately 4 years' work experience as a primary occupation in residential or commercial performing maintenance plumbing and electrical work. Experience must include rough or maintenance plumbing and electrical work.
  6. Experience using specialized tools and equipment associated with trades indicated. Typically gained by two years' work experience in carpentry in a commercial, industrial or institution setting AND; Typically gained by two years' work experience in maintenance repairing plumbing values, drains and fixtures in a commercial, industrial or institution setting AND; Typically gained by two years' work experience in repairing and replacing electrical switches, contactors and motors in a commercial, industrial or institution setting AND; Typically gained by two years' work experience in maintaining and repairing gas and electrical heaters, DX and evaporative cooling systems, exhaust fans and HVAC controls in a commercial, industrial or institution setting.
  7. Experience maintaining maintenance records and preparing related reports. Typically gained by one year work experience maintaining maintenance records and preparing related reports.
  8. Experience reading blueprints and specifications and estimating material needs and costs for jobs. Typically gained at least six months of work experience reading blueprints and estimating material needs and costs to be considered for this position.

Specialty Qualifications:
  1. Willingness to work in a correctional facility.
