How much do building management system jobs pay per year?
What is a building management system?
A Building Management System (BMS) job involves overseeing and maintaining the automated systems that control a building’s essential functions, such as HVAC, lighting, security, and energy management. Professionals in this role ensure that these systems operate efficiently, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance for cost savings and sustainability. They may also work on integrating new technologies and responding to maintenance needs. This role is critical in large commercial buildings, hospitals, and industrial facilities.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of a building management system professional?
As a BMS professional, your daily tasks often include monitoring system performance, conducting routine system checks, responding to alarms or faults, and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise. You may also be responsible for coordinating with contractors, facility managers, and maintenance teams to plan and implement repairs, upgrades, or system optimizations. Documentation, reporting, and compliance with safety and energy regulations are also important aspects of the job. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure building comfort, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the building management system position?
To thrive as a Building Management System (BMS) professional, you need expertise in building automation, HVAC controls, electrical systems, and a background in engineering or technology. Familiarity with common BMS platforms (such as Siemens, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric), networking protocols, and industry certifications like Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or LEED accreditation are highly advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills and qualifications ensure efficient system operations, enable quick troubleshooting, and facilitate smooth coordination with facility teams and vendors.

If you enjoy figuring out timekeeping rules, schedules, and system configurations - and making them actually work - this opportunity might be for you.
Align HCM is a proud partner of UKG, sharing their commitment to inspiring both businesses and the people who run them. Our remote team of Aligners is made up of talented HCM professionals who deliver exceptional service and expertise to clients around the world.
We're building a contractor bench of experienced UKG Workforce Management consultants for current and upcoming client engagements. This is an opportunity to connect with Align HCM for contract projects that match your expertise, availability, and experience.
Please note: This is a contractor bench opportunity and does not guarantee an immediate project assignment. Candidates who meet our requirements may be added to our contractor bench and contacted when a suitable client engagement becomes available.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a trusted consultant and guide for clients implementing and optimizing UKG Workforce Management solutions, including UKG WFM, UKG Pro WFM, and UKG Dimensions.
- Support end-to-end implementation activities, including discovery, requirements gathering, system configuration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
- Gather business requirements and translate them into effective system configurations and functional solutions.
- Configure Workforce Management modules such as Timekeeping, Accruals, Scheduling, Personas, Business Structure, and Attendance.
- Contribute to requirements documentation, functional designs, configuration documentation, and testing activities.
- Troubleshoot system and configuration issues during implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Collaborate with project managers, functional consultants, technical teams, and client stakeholders across multiple project workstreams.
- Manage multiple client engagements and deliverables within a consulting environment.
- Provide best-practice recommendations and functional guidance to help clients optimize their UKG WFM solutions.
- Participate in client meetings, workshops, demonstrations, and implementation discussions.
- Maintain strong UKG product knowledge through ongoing training, certification, and continuous learning.
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years of experience implementing, configuring, or supporting Workforce Management or Time & Attendance systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with UKG WFM, UKG Pro WFM, and/or UKG Dimensions is highly preferred and considered a core requirement.
- Experience with Kronos Workforce Central (WFC) is highly relevant and will be considered, particularly for candidates with strong WFM implementation experience.
- Experience with UKG UTA (Ultimate Time & Attendance) or other legacy UKG timekeeping platforms is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with system configuration, testing, deployment, and go-live support for Workforce Management implementations.
- Experience configuring modules such as Timekeeping, Accruals, Scheduling, Personas, Business Structure, and/or Attendance.
- Client-facing implementation, consulting, or solution delivery experience within an HCM/WFM environment.
- Experience leading a module, workstream, or significant portion of an implementation project.
- Strong understanding of Workforce Management concepts, including timekeeping rules, pay rules, schedules, accruals, attendance, and employee data structures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Comfortable working remotely and collaborating with distributed project teams.
- Willingness to participate in UKG product training, certification programs, and continuous learning initiatives.
- Contractor readiness: Willingness and ability to engage on a contract basis when a suitable client opportunity becomes available.
- Availability: Clearly defined current or upcoming availability, including expected notice period and potential start date for contract engagements.
- Ability to commit to agreed project schedules and deliverables once assigned to a client engagement.
- For US and Canada candidates: Ability to travel for client engagements as needed, up to 10%.
- For Philippines candidates: Remote position; travel is not required.
- Candidates must have valid authorization to work in their respective country. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in a consulting or professional services environment.
- UKG certification or relevant UKG product certification.
- Experience working with North American clients.
- Experience supporting integrations or troubleshooting WFM-related system issues.
