Job description

JOB SUMMARY
At Wilson School District, we believe that education should be shaped by a sense of purpose. As the Maintenance Mechanic, you help ensure students have access to high quality education by providing direct maintenance and repair to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment. 22.00-24.50 per hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Repair, replacement and troubleshooting of all electrical equipment in the District including 480 volts
  • Repair, adjust and troubleshoot all HVAC problems(Basic A/C Knowledge needed)
  • Repair, replace and install plumbing fixtures, pipes or water lines
  • Responsible for repairs and maintenance to school district transportation and maintenance vehicles
  • Responsible for the examination, repair and upkeep of all physical buildings in the District
  • Repair and maintain all doors, windows, locks, floors, ceilings, hardware, roofs and building interior to include painting and/or preserving
  • Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment to include but not limited to lawn tractors, front-end loaders, lawn mowers, weed eaters and other related equipment
  • Advises on the hiring of contractors or other services to perform certain maintenance or repair services
  • Coordinates projects with Day Custodians
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D
• General knowledge of all physical plant maintenance, Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, grounds
• HVAC (Basic Knowledge)
PREFFERED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• 5 years' experience in building maintenance field
• Ability to diagnose and evaluate mechanical work needed to maintain safe performance of all vehicles
• Experience in HVAC field
• Ability to diagnose and evaluate HVAC equipment
• HVAC Certifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ABILITIES:
Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, maintains the physical school plant in proper operating condition and appearance, the proper degree of safety so the full educational use of the plant is possible at all times

Knowledge of:
  • Basic activities pertaining to the daily functions of building maintenance, grounds care and vehicle maintenance

Skilled in:
  • Communicating projects with all maintenance and site staff, written and verbal

Ability to:
  • Work independently and prioritize from a variety of tasks
  • Adapt to changing technology and utilize available tools and resources

We are a Pre-K through 8th grade school district in Phoenix, Arizona, established as the seventh school district organized in Maricopa County in 1879 and named for Mr. W. J. Wilson, a school board member. The district name was changed in the mid-1930's to Hawkins School. From Wilson to Hawkins to Ward to Skiff, the District was bought by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and relocated to its current location in the early 1980's and named Wilson Primary and Wilson Elementary, opening on Martin Luther King Day in 1985. The district boundaries cover an area from Roosevelt Street to the north; the Salt River to the south; 40th Street to the east; and, 16th Street to the west.
