Job Title: Building Custodian
Location: Corpus Christi, TX
Salary: $16.00 DOE
JOB SUMMARY:
The Building Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for customers, staff, partners, and visitors at the Career Centers. This position ensures that all public areas, offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, and common spaces are properly cleaned and maintained to support high-quality workforce development services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, offices, classrooms, conference rooms, and public areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as needed.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windows, doors, and equipment.
  • Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
  • Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or repair needs to management.
  • Follow established safety procedures and proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
  • Assist with seasonal cleaning projects and emergency cleanup situations as required.
  • Ensure all entrances, hallways, and public areas remain presentable and accessible throughout operating hours.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
  • Ability to operate custodial equipment, including vacuums, floor cleaners, and other maintenance tools.
  • Has a general knowledge of tools, including screwdrivers, ratchet sets, hammers, drills, among other common tools.
  • Ability to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to keep an organized record of cleaning supply inventory.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, organizational skills, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to interact professionally with staff, customers, and visitors.
  • Skills to make minor repairs (drywall repair, paint restorations, etc.)
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and ability to maintain safety awareness.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance with a good driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, stoop, and walk to perform job scope. Requires visual acuity, speech, and hearing. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment and outdoors as needed. Frequent driving and travel may be required. Flexible hours may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
