Position Summary

The International Logistics Coordinator is responsible for coordinating international inbound transportation activities to ensure the timely, compliant, and cost-effective movement of materials into the United States. This position serves as the primary point of contact for daily import operations, partnering with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and internal stakeholders to maintain complete shipment visibility from origin through final delivery.

The ideal candidate is an experienced logistics professional with strong knowledge of international transportation, U.S. Customs import procedures, freight forwarding operations, and trade compliance. This individual thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, proactively resolves transportation issues, and supports uninterrupted production through effective logistics execution.


Key Responsibilities

International Transportation Coordination

  • Coordinate international inbound shipments via air freight, ocean freight (FCL/LCL), and ground transportation.
  • Schedule and manage shipment execution with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transportation providers.
  • Monitor shipments from origin through final delivery while maintaining complete shipment visibility.
  • Provide timely shipment updates and proactive communication to internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate expedited and time-critical shipments to support manufacturing schedules and minimize production disruptions.
  • Track shipment milestones, estimated arrival dates, and delivery performance.


Import Operations & Customs Compliance

  • Review and validate import documentation including:
  • Commercial Invoices
  • Packing Lists
  • Air Waybills (AWB)
  • Bills of Lading (B/L)
  • Certificates of Origin
  • Other required customs documentation
  • Ensure all shipping documentation is complete, accurate, and available prior to cargo arrival.
  • Coordinate customs clearance activities with customs brokers to facilitate timely import processing.
  • Support compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, CTPAT requirements, and international trade compliance standards.
  • Coordinate Hazardous Materials (HazMat/Dangerous Goods) shipments in accordance with IATA, IMDG, and DOT regulations.


Shipment Management & Problem Resolution

  • Identify and resolve shipment delays, documentation discrepancies, customs holds, carrier issues, and transportation exceptions.
  • Escalate logistics issues that could impact production schedules or customer commitments.
  • Coordinate recovery plans for delayed or expedited shipments.
  • Monitor carrier and forwarder performance to ensure service level expectations are achieved.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Purchasing, Planning, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Finance, and overseas suppliers to ensure material availability.
  • Support production planning through accurate shipment visibility and delivery forecasting.
  • Communicate shipment status, risks, and recovery plans to internal stakeholders.


Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate shipment records and logistics data within ERP and transportation systems.
  • Prepare logistics reports, shipment metrics, and transportation performance analyses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve logistics processes, transportation efficiency, and shipment visibility.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, lead-time improvement, and operational excellence.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, International Trade, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.


Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience coordinating international import operations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing international air, ocean (FCL/LCL), and ground transportation.
  • Experience importing products into the United States.
  • Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, international carriers, and overseas suppliers.
  • Experience coordinating expedited and time-sensitive international shipments.
  • Experience coordinating Hazardous Materials (HazMat/Dangerous Goods) shipments.
  • Experience supporting electronics manufacturing or other high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Experience importing products from Asia strongly preferred.


Technical Knowledge
