Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or relevant field of study required

Work Experiences:

  • 3+ years experience with the classification of import items or other relevant work experience required.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of U.S. import regulations and ability to classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and application of General Rules of Interpretation
  • Knowledge of customs broker practices
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft - Word, Excel and Power Point and Customs software tools
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Communication - effective listening, speaking, and writing skills
  • Certified Custom Specialist preferred
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Sporting goods (apparel/footwear/hardgoods) and/or retail industry experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with U.S. import regulations and proper use of the Harmonized Tariff classification numbers with the corresponding rate of duty.
  • Follows internal control procedures when working with brokers or customs. This includes maintaining the Classification database.
  • Handles day-to-day compliance issues that delay the clearance of goods through the import entry process and anticipates problems and diffuses situations.
  • Ensures import products are properly described and the classification/duty rate is properly assigned Assists with establishing, maintaining, and monitoring Compliance procedures.
  • Assists Global Sourcing, Merchants, Vendors and DC operations team in resolving issues with import shipments.
  • Interfaces and liaises daily with Customs Broker, Vendors, Import Logistics and Global Sourcing teams.
  • Analyzes, reviews and approves broker entries.
  • Carries out import compliance in the following CBP programs: Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), Importer Self-Assessment (ISA), and Intellectual Property Right (IPR).
  • Completes specific goals, initiatives and long-range strategic objectives as assigned by the Customs Compliance Operations Manager.
  • Duties may change and associates may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional staff behavior
