Position Summary:

The Lead e-Billing Specialist is responsible for overseeing daily e-Billing operations, supporting e-Billing specialists, and ensuring client invoice submissions are accurate, timely, and fully compliant with billing guidelines. This position serves as the primary escalation point for client electronic billing issues and system challenges, while also coordinating with internal teams such as Billing, Collections, and Client Value. The Lead e-Billing Specialist plays a key role in managing complex e-Billing platforms, enforcing workflow standards, and improving e-Billing performance across the firm.
Essential Functions:
  1. Provides daily direction and task prioritization for e-Billing team members.
  2. Assigns work based on urgency, deadlines, and department workload.
  3. Oversees invoice submissions across multiple e-Billing platforms (BillBlast, Legal Tracker, TyMetrix360, CounselLink, Brightflag, Collaborati, etc.).
  4. Ensures invoice compliance with Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs), rate arrangements, client-specific restrictions, and vendor onboarding protocols.
  5. Manages client billing exceptions, rejections, and appeals; serve as primary escalation point for client or internal billing issues.
  6. Monitors key metrics such as submission cycle times, rejection rates, appeal outcomes, budget status, and accruals.
  7. Trains and mentors e-Billing team members on platform functionality, compliance rules, and firm standards.
  8. Maintains and enforces standardized e-Billing workflows and documentation.
  9. Develops and maintains internal SOPs and site-specific billing process documentation.
  10. Coordinates with Client Value team to implement approved rates, AFAs, and billing structures.
  11. Identifies workflow inefficiencies and partner with e-Billing Supervisor to implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  12. Serves as subject matter expert on e-Billing platforms, including LEDES formats, manual file handling, and billing software configuration.
  13. Communicates professionally with attorneys, clients, and internal departments to resolve issues and support accurate billing.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
The Lead e-Billing Specialist must have a minimum of five years of law firm e-Billing experience. Experience with multiple e-Billing platforms, including Legal Tracker, CounselLink, TyMetrix360, and similar systems. Strong knowledge of LEDES billing formats, UTBMS codes, and OCG compliance. Aderant and BillBlast experience strongly preferred. Prior leadership or team oversight experience required. Experience training others and developing or maintaining process documentation preferred. Effective communication and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize competing demands, and maintain accuracy under pressure. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and billing software platforms. Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
The salary range for this position is $78K to $95K.

Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that Benesch provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work. Full-time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
