Position Title: Dean of Restorative Practices 

Reports to: Assistant Principal  

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time, 12-month position

Dean of Restorative Practices Role Summary 

The Dean of Restorative Practices (DRP) leads the school's restorative practices programming, progressive discipline, and implementation of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to create a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment that promotes campus safety in all ways with the guidance from the Principal and Assistant Principal(s). The DRP will implement, facilitate, and maintain the school’s behavior management systems to ensure all students, staff, and families understand their role in supporting a safe campus culture. The DRP is also responsible for communicating with appropriate campus, community, and district stakeholders including the Senior Director of Restorative Practices in a timely and responsive manner.  The DRP will work in partnership with the Assistant Principal and Principal to support liaising with the BSS Board and Los Angeles Unified School District in reporting high-level disciplinary and other required documentation.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

Basic Components of the Job Description for the Dean of Restorative Practices position include (but are not limited to): 

Personal Leadership 

• Set and uphold high expectations for student learning and behavior, with the belief that all students—regardless of background—can excel at the highest levels. 

• Cultivate a positive, inclusive school climate grounded in equity, restorative practices, and trauma-informed approaches that support the whole child. 

• Build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and the community through compassionate and collaborative leadership. 

• Lead with self-awareness, adaptability, and a growth mindset—modeling resilience, openness to feedback, and effective problem-solving. 

Team Leadership  

• Create systems that support the utilization of restorative practices and PBIS structures to establish, maintain, and repair relationships between student-to-student; student-to-staff; staff-to families 

• Manage student investigations, inquiry, and resolution process in observance of state and federal law, and district expectations 

• Collaborate with the site and district leadership to implement and facilitate school culture initiatives based on data, site-specific goals, and Bright Star School’s overall mission and vision for students 

Positive and Productive School Culture Leadership 

• Partner with school leaders to implement and manage a campus-wide behavior framework (Tier 1–3) that ensures a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. 

• Build staff capacity in restorative practices and proactive classroom systems to foster healthy relationships and positive student behavior. 

• Collaborate with students, families, and teams (including MTSS) to provide targeted supports, resources, and individualized Behavior Support Plans. 

• Monitor and analyze behavior data to inform decisions, ensure compliance documentation, and coach staff through feedback, supervision, and professional learning. 

What you’ll bring 

Qualifications & Experience 

• BA in an education-related field 

• Fluency in Spanish or Korean (highly desired)  

• 3+ years of teaching, counseling, or student support experience 

• Restorative Practices certification (highly desired)  

• Strong oral and written communication skills including advocacy skills 

• Ability to connect and build relationships with students and their families 

• Experience using data management systems 

• Experience working with youth from historically underserved communities 

• Experience working in a fast-moving environment; crisis management   

Experience and Skills 

• Deep belief that all students can succeed in achieving their individual educational goals 

• Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills 

• Desire to continuously grow own skills through participating in  professional development and training opportunities 

• Ability to develop and build relationships with students and their families  

• Ability to look at school on a macro level, and implement programs and activities as needed to boost school culture and a positive atmosphere  

• Working knowledge of Google online platforms (including Gmail, sheets, and docs) plus an aptitude for quickly learning and mastering other online platforms 

• Ability to create and facilitate relevant, ongoing PD for staff and faculty

• Must be able to analyze written, spoken, visual, and other sensory stimuli 

• Must have ability to understand and analyze written and spoken English

Working Conditions/Work Environment 

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally expected to work indoors in typical school and office environments. This position involves: 

• Occasional exposure to extreme or varying temperatures. 

• Occasional exposure to outdoor elements such as sun, precipitation and wind or wet/humid surroundings. 

• Occasional/ exposure to loud noise, fumes, smoke, dust. 

Physical Requirements

• Speaking and hearing are essential to the communication needs of the position; constant hearing and speaking in person and on the phone, via remote video teleconferencing platforms. 

• Must be able to be physically present at the worksite and occasionally travel for meetings or conferences.

• Salary:  BSS salary is based on experience and education 

• Start Date:  An exceptional candidate will assume a full-time role no later than July 2026.
