Dean of Restorative Practices Role Summaryย 

The Dean of Restorative Practices (DRP) leads the school's restorative practices programming, progressive discipline, and implementation of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to create a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment that promotes campus safety in all ways with the guidance from the Principal and Assistant Principal(s). The DRP will implement,ย facilitate, andย maintainย the schoolโ€™s behavior management systems to ensure all students, staff, and families understand their role in supporting a safe campus culture. The DRP is also responsible for communicating withย appropriate campus, community, and district stakeholders including the Senior Director of Restorative Practices inย a timelyย and responsive manner.ย ย The DRP will work in partnership with the Assistant Principal and Principal to support liaising with the BSS Board and Los Angeles Unified School District in reporting high-level disciplinary and other required documentation.ย

Team Leadershipย ย 

  • Create systems that support theย utilizationย of restorative practices and PBIS structures toย establish, maintain, and repair relationships between student-to-student; student-to-staff; staff-to familiesย 

  • Manage student investigations, inquiry, and resolution process in observance of state and federal law, and district expectationsย 

  • Collaborate with the site and district leadership to implement andย facilitateย school culture initiatives based on data, site-specific goals, and Bright Star Schoolโ€™s overall mission and vision for studentsย 

Positive and Productive School Culture Leadershipย 

  • Partner with school leaders to implement and manage a campus-wide behavior framework (Tier 1โ€“3) that ensures a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.ย 

  • Build staff capacity in restorative practices and proactive classroom systems to foster healthy relationships and positive student behavior.ย 

  • Collaborate with students, families, and teams (including MTSS) to provide targeted supports, resources, and individualized Behavior Support Plans.ย 

  • Monitor and analyze behavior data to inform decisions, ensure compliance documentation, and coach staff through feedback, supervision, and professional learning.ย

Qualifications & Experienceย 

  • BA in an education-related fieldย 

  • Fluency in Spanish or Korean (highly desired)ย ย 

  • 3+ years of teaching, counseling, or student support experienceย 

  • Restorative Practices certification (highly desired)ย ย 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills including advocacy skillsย 

  • Ability to connect and build relationships with students and their familiesย 

  • Experience using data management systemsย 

  • Experience working with youth from historically underserved communitiesย 

  • Experience working in a fast-moving environment; crisis managementย  ย
